That’s a bad idea. You should save up for it and get it done professionally. You don’t want to mess with your car. You could have an accident.
Get another quote from a few other garages.
Forego the ps4 and put it into the car repair fund.
My 17 year old daughter fixes stuff on her car using YouTube. It works for her. I’m all about do it yourself if you can. I am unfortunately not that ballsy. Aka chicken
thanks for the concern but i use to work in a garage and i know what i am doing, its pretty simple, the only things that i think will be difficult is heating one of the bolts and getting the tools together, i think i have the tools lying about at my dads and i can get a loan of spring clamps and maybe some gas,
tbh, its a challenge and i am keen to do it bc i want to prove to myself that i can still do it and save money in the mean time
if I were close by I’d offer a helping hand. I used to work on cars a little. Good luck. Be safe
thanks a lot @tyngerra thats very kind of you but my mate is going to help me with it lol, i’m hoping its all going to come in at about £175 which is way better than the £500 i got quoted from a garage

My dad took apart the car’s engine then changed some parts and put it back together. He has never had any formal training in the field but hates spending money on overpriced services. He tells me a 0.1mm precision is needed when dealing with sensible car parts
All I can say is, we got lucky this time but next time I hope dad wisens up and takes the car to a specialized centre…
I started working on cars when I was about 12. Now I am a licensed aircraft mechanic.
There’s nothing wrong with doing it yourself and saving some money so long as you know what you are doing. Good luck with the project.
Take a picture of the pothole and complain to the council. You might get some compensation.
i’m going to do that
i got some tools today, spring clamps at £20 and my sister gave me her trolley jack
I worked for 5 years in the new car game. We handled all imports and did what we had to to make them Australian compliant.
That meant putting radios and plates in em and it was cool but we also did accessory fits like steps, ladder racks, internals etc.
It was fun and learned a lot and know a lot of people who do car stuff from mechanics to painters but doing it yourself is still the best! I can appreciate that so good luck matey!
cheers @rogueone
so i tried to do it today but things were conspiring against us, i thought we’d be ok for tools but nope, so i just stuck the wheel back on and will try again soon, my friend (who has sz) stays around the corner and he has better tools so i’m going to ask him for a loan of them
still not fixed
so i’m really disappointed with myself but its only one bolt that is tight that is stopping me and it is half off lol, its doing my head in tbh
