Do they talk about correlation or inference?
When I went to the ER with extreme abdominal pain and nausea,
They diagnosed me with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, twice.
Because I smoked weed.
After finally doing some diagnostics, they found I had kidney stones.
I feel like doctors (and maybe researchers) want to blame cannabis for just about everything these days and I have a doctor friend that will back that up all day.
I realize it’s not for everybody, and should be used responsibly,
But it can’t be a catch-all for your many issues.
Including mental illness.
I read the article and they say ‘a strong link’. ‘Although we’re unable to establish a causal relationship’.
IMO you have to have a predispositon to mental illness to be triggered by cannabis
I dont reckon you should be able to smoke the stuff - until your over 25 when the brain has developed. And even then, there is risks.
We all know weed is the first goto drug people with mental illness will goto to self-medicate their symptoms.
But its fools gold. Those anti-psychotics you religously take are easily wiped out by a joint.
But people tend to have to learn by their own mistakes in not taking it - and i reckon 90% of the people on this forum have probably tried it.
for me it calms down my hallucinations and paranoia DRASTICALLY
I don’t know, my nephew suffers with depression and anxiety and he smokes a lot of weed.
He seems to be doing much better in college.
Maybe there’s a correlation?
My brother says that he’s self medicating with cannabis and it’s relaxing him.
High strength thc cannabis played a massive role in my first psychosis. I had been smoking very heavily for a year and a half as I had unlimited access to it.
Although, I had stopped smoking it for a month or so before the episode, I believe that the damage to my brain had been done.
I believe that it acts as a trigger, and when combined with stress and genetic predisposition, makes psychosis much more likely!
Also I had been smoking it on and off since my early teens, and I believe it effected my brain development and caused paranoia.
Simply, some people’s genetics are not suited to cannabis use! Others may be fine, it’s a gamble and a genetic lottery.
I’m usually positive symptom free for the most part. But when I smoke even a small amount of weak weed I spin out pretty quickly. Really bad paranoia and audible hallucinations sometimes. Hate the stuff. I wish there was another type of easy to access and cheap drug like weed that I could use that didn’t make me paranoid af. But most of the other drugs out there aren’t really appropriate for regular use since most of them are so destructive I guess.
