Cannabis use in psychotic patients linked to 50 percent higher hospital admission risk

Cannabis use among people experiencing a first episode of psychotic illness is linked to a 50 per cent heightened risk of hospital admission–including compulsory detention (sectioning)–as well as longer inpatient stay, reveals the largest study of its kind, published in the online journal BMJ Open.

Cannabis use was also linked to higher numbers of prescriptions for different antipsychotic drugs, the findings show, suggesting that it may contribute to treatment failure, say the researchers.

Yes yes yes. If you have any kind of psychotic disorder PLEASE don’t use marijuana :frowning: Can make your paranoia so much worse. It’s also believed to trigger schizophrenia/psychosis in individuals who it would have remained latent in.

I don’t agree with most of the general fear-mongering about weed, but I do agree that it can make some pre-existing mental health problems worse. I have experienced it myself and see it happen in several others. At least it was nice while it lasted, but I know that I can no longer partake with neurotypicals who enjoy it, will send me down a bad route mentally.
