Can we get a dislike button?

It would really be beneficial. Make us more efficient like the “eco” light that lights up in newer cars to indicate they are accelarating eco-friendly. Most social media is scared of this, let us be the pioneers, utube has dislikes.

there already is a dislike button:

:triangular_flag_on_post:

but the flag count’s hidden.
showing the flag count would increase the number of fights on the forum.

but a Dislike button (separate from Flag button) is an innovative idea in terms of more expression and communication. in fact, it’s actually a good release to be able to express dislike in that form, rather than bottling up the feeling of dislike and then releasing that ripe feeling in another harmful random manner.

honestly, people dislike posts sometimes. and to not be able to publicly express their dislike is sometimes not healthy, especially since some people on the forum aren’t even able to flag posts. so a Dislike button would be understandable, but just not practical for the mods methinketh because of the increased fights.

Anyone can flag a post if they want, even a new user.

Of course, people should only be using flags to alert us to rule-breaking, not just because they dislike a post. Don’t abuse it.

metaphorically-speaking but not literally.

but honestly, I’ve heard non-mod members say they flagged posts that I found weren’t objectively flag-worthy.
sometimes i feel that the feeling of dislike can easily fall into this category:

by the way, i stopped using the Flag button a long time ago.

also, one poster made a thread about how he or she had recently bought girl scout cookies. there was a picture of the cookies to which some other individual made a reply saying “yum, yum. i wish girl scouts came to my door.”

that reply was deleted without any clear explanation or reason.

for all that individual knows, it could’ve been deleted because of gender, age, or race.

but objectively; that reply wasn’t off-topic, that reply wasn’t inappropriate, and that reply wasn’t spam.

in cases like these, perhaps a Dislike would’ve been more appropriate than a Flag.

Thx for ur support @sirBoring, ur the only one who seems to reply to my threads as well. I think it’s an idea worth trying, if it doesnt work we’ll at least know. U are right, if we can express ‘like’ why not ‘dislike’ and let it out. Oh well, another idea falling on deaf ears

also reactions would be cool like Facebook

#I CAN REACT TO @sirBoring 's posts with a smiling :joy: :goat:

I kinda think people would take a dislike count as a negative thing,. We all come here for positive reasons. I think we should dwell on the positive the likes. If someone has a post that’s inappropriate for a support group it gets flagged or removed, I’m ok with that.

yeah, Dislike button is probably not a feature in the Discourse (civilized discussion) software, so there wouldn’t be much anyone can do anyways. and besides, a Dislike button would increase the number of fights. the moderators and szadmin are incredibly good at what they do, but a Dislike button would clearly and logically be a bullet to dodge.

MsBuddha reminds me of Daze. @sleepybug and @cheri also both reminded me of Daze

is that a good or a bad thing?

one time, Daze posted something that offended me. thereafter, I told her that i would stop reading her posts until she stopped @-mentioning me and responding immediately after my posts.

i still do that, but i don’t tell anyone like i did with Daze.

notice how i’m not directly replying to your posts, MsBuddha

sorry dude =( I will keep safe distance =(

I think that a dislike button could sadden someone who is having a bad time.

I personally think adding a “dislike” button or “down vote” button would be detrimental to the positive community support spirit of this forum. This is a support forum not a popularity contest. My two cents…

Gotta be honest: if this site had a dislike button, I’d be campaigning to get rid of it. I think it would hurt people, make them feel anxious and paranoid, and lead to hard feelings. I don’t see how that could improve our community.

I would be totally opposed to such a button. Some people here would use it against those they dislike irrespective of whether the post in question was really dislikeable.

Nooo!! A dislike button is a terrible idea!
This would cause a lot of Negitivity and hard feelings.

If you don’t like something, be civil and silently move on to something you do like, no sense in dwelling on the negative.

What about an indifference button?
