Can we cover humility again

If you put the needs of others first, others will make sure that your needs are met. That doesn’t mean to go out looking for a homeless person and give them all your money, but what it means is that caring for people has an effect on the whole and what is given is received.

Lol for sure… guess we all have a lot to learn. Its a lifelong task understanding these things i guess haha i dont suppose we could fully understand them if this thread went on forever

I think the idea is to not be sharp with ourselves but just to put others first.

Or…to hide my own accomplishments or atleast not to present them so readily or persistently to others…

Just thinking outloud here lol. Take what i say with a grain of salt :salt:

This is an Etruscan shrew. According to google its the smallest mammal in existence.

Mr shrew whats your secret to humility?

Shrinking from acknowledgement?
Hiding from recognition?

What do you all hear mr. Shrew saying?:crazy_face:

There is a difference of being humble and respectful to others, to the other end of the scale where your liable to get mugged off cos they think your an easy target.

According to this chart, i think the ancient philosophers like aristotle would say that a deficiency in “rightful pride” would be “undue meekness”… or perhaps this deals with “arrogance” vs “false modesty” …

I think:
Undue meekness = verbal self harm
False modestry = disguised pride

So both miss the mark, youre right lol
I think getting mugged off comes when you verbally self harm a.k.a. you dont respect yourself.

Its why the younger generation these days “give it large” and command respect - without giving any themselves. Respect these days translates these days into children being abusive cos they dont no better.

Its a scenario played out daily in the prison population.

So i guess we can firmly say humility is not:
“I suck im garbage” (self abuse)

Or “im no good at all” when youre amazing at something. (Lying to seem lesser)

But rather “having self respect without vanity” and “being true to the self, but without arrogance.”

Maybe they feel theres a shortage of love and respect and so theyre defensive. I think people 20-40 will usualky struggle with greed and anger also…maybe that adds to what youre seeing

Humility is having a realistic view of oneself.

Humility is knowing your place in life.
