I understand completely, It has been the way for many of us.
how long have you been on antipsychotics?
most of the weight gain is either due to olanzapine OR the first few months only (respiridone)
I managed to stay slim about 50 50 but 28 years later (ED prior to meds) I’m 45 married to someone who really cares about me but i’m pretty overweight
depression is a huge part of schizophrenia it is a recognised coutnerpart
if you can take anti depressants for the long term it can take away depression - for me described as ‘lack of joy’ it will help with all your other symptoms
I switched to Abilify Maintena from Invega Trinza. I’ve noticed that I can laugh and cry again. Hoping that the emotional numbness will decrease when the Invega leaves the system. It’s been some months since I got an Invega shot.
My depression was caused by life circumstances. For me, my personal narrative was that I beat depression with talk therapy and exercise and self-improvement.
I am brand new to schizophrenia. I will be having a medication discussion with an actual psychiatrist hopefully next week sometime.
That’s amazing @AgonyApathy, well done! My doc told me ap’s cause obesity & diabetes. I started on Zyprexa & had rapid weight gain. Changed to Lurasidone & for the first time in my life got elevated cholesterol. Got an appointment tomorrow, I’ll be weighed & get blood test results to see what Larisidone has done. Wanting to change back to Zyprexa 'cos I’m suffering bad from positive symptoms, the Zyprexa helped much more.
I’m a good cook & eat really, really healthy. If you’re interested in some healthy recipes let me know. For example, for a healthy treat I make spicy black bean choc chip & cherry cookies. They have no flour, no highly refined white sugar & no butter barbecue they used cooked black beans instead, they turn out really rich & fudgy. I just have one small one every few days.
