Can schizophrenia cause anger & frustration?

I have a question. I was diagnosed with “mild schizophrenia” in Jan. of 2012, but I’ve only had a scant few hallucinations since then. But yesterday morning something happened that upset me and it affected my whole day. I was so uncontrollably mad that I was shaking by late afternoon. Can schizophrenia cause extreme frustration and anger leading to obsessing about a situation? I mean, I couldn’t think of anything else. Thanks.

Hi welcome to the forums.

It’s a loaded question. It won’t cause such things but those sorts of thing like mood and thought can be indicitive of an underlying problem. Are you still on meds? Usually with sz you have it or you don’t but it’s a weird world and there’s always that.

Stress is a big thing for sz. It exacerbates symtpoms and things like obsessive thoughts are quite common with something like sz.

I think its mood swings. I have it. I het tantrums once a day. It feels like peer pressure.

A better question would be - “Can schizophrenia NOT cause extreme anger and frustration?” Welcome to the site. I hope you like it here.

Yeah, I’m still taking Zyprexa once a night. And I appreciate what you told me about stress exacerbating sz symptoms. Thanks!

That definitely puts it in perspective. Thanks!

I was pretty angry back in 2006 to 2008 because of my delusion. I don’t get angry much now that I’m on medication for Sz.

I generally find that life causes anger and frustration. My schizophrenia affects my ability to manage it well. The anger and frustration also make my positive symptoms worse. I try to manage stress and avoid things that I know will anger me (I no longer watch the news).

Welcome I hope you enjoy your stay!

I have bipolar with the schizophrenia so I can have mood swings and that can make me think about something a lot or what I’m now recognizing as my voices will tell me how horrible something was or embarrass me more or make me mad… My meds keep the voices in check

Welcome @plaindave!
I definitely have anger and frustration from my sz, they were deeply suppressed too before. The feeling was mainly, that i was boiling inside of me, but the thing is that i always blamed myself for that, so i am getting paranoid when i am angry  … Tough thing tbh, but you can get rid of them, am sure of it heh
