Can plain water clean clothes?

I washed my clothes in what I found out was fabric softener. I thought it was detergent but my clothes smelled clean. What up with that?

Nope you need to check if the water is hard or soft. As per that type of water the detergent works.

Edit I think your water is soft water ?

Yes. I thought I bought clothes detergent but when I read the bottle it was fabric refresher. I’ve done a load of laundry using it and they smell clean.

There are probably scents in the fabric softener that mask any smells.

I would recommend just rewashing your laundry with laundry detergent.

I don’t think it can replace soap but it’s not the end of the world. It has scents is similar to soap I think. I personally wouldn’t care lol I’d just use it for now. I use dish soap for my clothes most of the time cause I dont have a car to lug laundry detergent home.

If you can wear them, go ahead. I don’t think they’d be that clean.

What about Amazon?

@Loke You can’t get a big jug of liquid Tide Original at Walmart for a pretty good price. That’s all I use in my laundry and it works and smells great.

I use those little detergent sheets, one per load and you get 60 of them in a box. I know measuring detergent isn’t some big strenuous thing but these sheets make the whole process easier and they take up little space compared to a big jug of detergent.
