Can i lose weight on antipsychotics?

I know i asked this before but i cant find that post. Can i lose weight on antipsychotics? What can you do? Im taking olanzapine which is one of the aps that cause the most weight gain, however i know that weight gain is one of the side effects, but dont side effects go away over time? Shouldnt i be able to lose weight now?

I downloaded a calorie counter app and I’m losing weight using that. I’m on Abilify though.

Does abilify cause you to gain weight? Also, is the calorie counter helping?

Abilify seems to be weight neutral. If I stick to my allowed calories I lose weight. If I don’t, I gain weight.

The calorie counter is the only reason I’m losing weight.

I use this one. I paid for the full version.

The same calorie counter is available for the iPhone if that’s what you use.

I am a very rare case. I used to weight 86kg on 20mg Zyprexa and dieting I lost 20kg in one year. Now I weight 66kg and I am on Zyprexa 30mg and Abilify 10mg. On this dose I have managed to lose 1 kg in three days exercising and dieting. Exercise has helped greatly in reducing the amount of hunger I feel.

Im an adroid user, but there is different calorie counters that we have that are free. Im going to try one. Thanks @everhopeful. Im determined to lose weight, i guess it will be my new years resolution.

I am on Zyprexa now and find it difficult but I am losing some weight on it. I think it ultimately requires motivation and conviction to lose weight, no matter what med you are on.

Thats very good, i hope i can do it. Im going to try. Im on olanzapine 20mg. But all i was doing for the last few years was laying in the bed, i wasnt active so i guess thats why i wasnt losing weight on olanzapine. Maybe if i become more active i can lose weight.

Do you lay in the bed all day like i do? Lol if so it will be hard to lose weight.

It depends. I found it hard to lose weight on Zyprexa. Not impossible just harder than normal.

Yes I did lose weight with plenty exercise and eating healthy
