Can antipsychotics provoke schizophrenia during a cold turkey on people not schizophrens before to take antipsychotics ?.
I think it’s my case cos i started to take abilify in september 2010 and After i cold turkey it in August 2012 and in the end of october 2012 i experienced my first psychosis.
I live the same expérience with depakote during cold turkey.
When i Taken abilify for the first Time in 2010 it was for a delirium trouble of persecusion with paranoïa and major dépression and abilify was very helpful.
But now i want to stop all these medicines to know if i able to be in good shape, not mentally ill without medicines.
So do you think if abilify cold turkey prokove me my schizophrenia or if my delirium trouble of persecusion with paranoia and major dépression was a prodrom of my schizophrenia ?.
Yes, it is possible that you can have psychosis as part of the withdrawal from antipsychotics.
It sounds like you already had symptoms of psychosis prior to taking abilify and thats the reason they put you on it.
I think its more likely you were already headed in that direction. It’s much more likely that you were going to have this psychosis regardless than it was caused by Abilify.
I think you are looking for something or someone to blame for your condition as people often do, when you were headed there already.
But I’m no pdoc. Just my opinion.
I just cold turkeyed abilify cause I thought I was “well” as did my doctors even… big mistake, all I got months later was wishing I hadn’t.
If you do this youll probably become mentally unwell again.
To answer your question, i dont think someone who is mentally healthy can become psychotic from med withdrawals no.
My advice is to only taper (reduce) your meds under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
I once quit my meds and that let to a second hospitalization.
You can experience psychosis as a side effect of withdrawing, I’m not sure if that itself can develop into sz or not. I know they use AP sometimes for other things, I was put on seroquel initially for ocd
I asked a pdoc that once and she said it would take years for APs to rewire someone’s brain. A few months on APs wouldn’t do permanent damage. There are all kinds of situations where they give APs to normies, too, and they are okay after.
