Calling sz or sza sick or ill

I keep calling the time period when I began a downwards spiral into psychosis or depression “getting sick or ill.” I can’t think of a better way to describe it in regards to before sza and after i was dx. Does that bother anyone? I just realized that it bothers me a little. Mentally ill vs mentally impaired? I hate the lingo.

Thinking back… I use the same lingo… I really don’t have any better way to describe it either… I wasn’t functional. I wasn’t in hospital (yet… or again) but I wasn’t doing well. I was getting ill… (???)

I was out of my head, in my own world ??? That doesn’t sound right.

I will say… “when the head circus came”… or “when the wax began”… but that’s for positive or negative symptoms. Because that’s how it felt.

But the overall downward spiral… I don’t really have any way to fully describe the feeling of loosing control over my own thinking… or senses. Just haven’t found the words yet.

It feels like my whole life is now divided. Into before I was sick and after. Maybe because i got ill so late, at 30 and I had a somewhat normal life until then.

I also hate the term ill and illness and wish we could come up with a much better name.

I use ill often. It helps reinforce the idea that this is a medical illness.

This is also why I use the word sick or ill -

I also prefer if someone refers to my condition to the time before I became ill and after. It is not nice to be always reminded of your label. Today I am still ill but I’m a lot better thanks to meds.

I vote for illness rather than Sick that has other connotations.
You’re ill you go to a doc. No biggie.
My doctor says illness too.

I prefer the word ill over sick as well

I also like to say ‘my illness’.

It’s a way of owning it, and perhaps saying that you might have some control over it.

The word that comes to me is discombobulation.

I have no control over it.

It’s a question of hope. You might have some control over it someday, if you accept it and find a treatment that works for you.

Yeah I could say ill. I have been ill latley, but the forums and my doctors, and family, and medication are keeping me from bieng hospitalized and such. I am kinda coming out of it to a out of remission state and wanting to do what poeple call life.

It’s less offensive than being called crazy, that’s for sure! Har dee har
