That’s cool, I could never quite get used to it on the side, I guess I’m just used to having it on the bottom.

I might install Cinnamon, I like that desktop environment too.

What kind of computer do you have?

Its a Dell G7 7590 laptop. Intel Core i7 9th gen, 32GB memory, 2080 maxq video card, NVMe SSD.

My computer is custom built, I built it in 2015, I haven’t installed 22.04 LTS on it yet.
1080 video card
32 GB memory
Core i7 7th gen
NVMe SSD

If you click on the screenshot and look at the terminal I ran a program called “neofetch”. It will tell you all about my laptop.

You got some heavy hardware. What do you do with your computers?

I used to game a lot, but I’ve given that up mostly. I taught myself to do some web programming. Now I just mostly surf the Internet.

The laptop I ordered was broken when it arrived, but they couldn’t replace it because they were out of stock so as a courtesy they upgraded me to one of the best laptops they had in the G7 series for free, woohoo!

I used to use my stationary computer daily. I have a laptop which I use to listen to radio. My stationary I barely touch these days, only when I pay my bills.

I want to start making some music on FL studio but I am not motivated. I hope I get the feels for it though, making music is a dream of mine.

Before I was diagnosed, I had a linux server with my website on it. Also I had a nokia n900 phone which could run debian linux. Happy days !

I’ve completely lost interest now though :slightly_frowning_face:

I tried Linux over a decade ago. Dual boot. I know that those who are die hard Linux users say it’s better than Windows, IMO it requires a much steeper learning curve compared to Windows to get the best out of it. I had some difficulty doing something , can’t remember what it was, so I sought help from a Linux users group. That was a very unpleasant experience. I basically got mocked and treated like I was,to them,a total idiot. That put me off Linux. I knew I needed help and support to get the best out of it, but wasn’t willing to risk being mocked again.

I did a bit of programming in the winter. Its more of a winter hobby for me.
I dont think i could do it as a job. Its pretty complex stuff.

Have you seen openai codex? I played around with that a bit last year

Translates english language to code.

Github copilot is out too

Yeah, I started using Linux in the late 90s. I dual boot too

it’s better in that you can customize it anyway you want if you have the knowledge on how to do so since the source code is available for anyone to modify and add any feature or customization you want. I now have my CompTIA Linux+ Certification.

It does have a very steep learning curve, I had a friend introduce me to it, from there I did a lot of reading on how to use it for the things I wanted to do with it.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Back when I started the community tended to be helpful. I asked a lot of questions on Linux forums and almost always had a positive experience. Back in the late 90s Linux enthusiasts really wanted Linux to take off so they helped out everyone, it was like a team effort to promote the operating system and get people to adopt it, it was mostly nerds and geeks back then that loved Linux…

I taught myself PHP/HTML/CSS/MySQL and a little javascript. I’ve programmed some websites and I have a project on GitHub. It’s all amateur level though. I never took programming in school

I worked quite a bit on my project over the pandemic, it was something to do

That’s cool.

I currently run 3 Linux servers. One here at home I use as a backup and development server. And 2 cloud server I setup with digitalocean.com. One is for my website the other is for the website of a client of mine.

I’ve never taught myself any programming. I’ll sometimes use this in R re genealogy and DNA, that’s about it.

source(‘nMonte3.R’)

getMonte(‘G25 modern and ancient individual scaled.txt’,‘Me g25 scaled anc dna.txt’,pen=0)

. I just saved the instructions provided by someone else. I check this blog from time to time.
