Browning of White Adipose Tissue as a Therapeutic Tool in the Fight against

There’s interesting research into the benefits of brown fat tissue for general health. Brown fat is activated by cold exposure for example, and it helps to burn extra calories. People with more brown fat tend to be less obese, so cold exposure for an hour or so per day might reduce weight and be good for general health.

I use cold water therapy by having a freezing cold shower for 3 minutes every morning. It has put my fibromyalgia into remission, but I haven’t seen any weight loss at all.

It took 4-5 weeks of cold showering for my body to adjust and stop the allodynia and pain from fibromyalgia.

It’s around 12 Celcius here in the mornings now, so I’ll just try walking around the house in just a t-shirt for half an hour or so each morning.

I’ve done that cold exposure for the last three mornings, standing in 10 Celcius with just shoes and pants on for an hour. It’s fairly easy if I ease myself into it and gradually take off layers of clothing over 5 mintues or so and let my body adjust. Need to have another warm room ready and waiting though to retreat to in case hypothermia suddenly kicks in.

You should go the whole hog and try the Wim Hoff method.

That is intermittent hypoxia for 5 minutes or so and cold showers!

It is tough but it actually does something tangible. I haven’t had allodynia for 3 months after cold showering for 3 minutes every day. It took a month of cold showering to feel a difference.

Tough in this inclement weather. My water is absolutely freezing!

Is your allodynia something like this?

I’ve watched 6 minutes of it.

My first fibromyalgia attack was the worst. It was preceded by allodynia. The allodynia was hyper sensitve and painful to touch patches of skin. It started on the back of my leg and spread to my buttocks. I could tolerate it.

Then it transformed into pain. I couldn’t sit. I couldn’t stand. It was unbearable. It wasn’t just the pain it was sort of affecting my brain. I had brain fog, I was so uncomfortable. It affected my mind set.

That was my first onset of fibromyalgia. I’ll never forget it. It was so weird, odd and excruciating at the same time.

Ever since then I got patches of allodynia but they never really developed into the same scale of pain as the first attack.

I regarded it as a blessing as the first attack was so bad, that the other pain was so minor. I knew it at its worst so nothing compared to it.

Since July I started cold showering after reading about the wim hoff method and how it can help agaisnt fibro and after a month the allodynia stopped.

I have had the odd pain in my arm or so, but nothing dramatic.

The amplified pain syndrome the girls in the video have show a similarity in the way I treat it. The cold water exposure therapy is self inflicted pain, but it is worth it. Just 3 minutes a day and I am doing fine for months so far.

I’m too much of a wimp to tolerate cold showers on a regular basis, plus I’d be afraid of having a heart attack from the shock of it. I’m 57 and live alone, so not safe.

I admire your guts in doing it though, fair play to you.
