Best response when friend tells you your sz isnt that bad?

It bugs me when someone tells me, “I am doing very well with sz compared to others”. I feel it minimizes the daily struggle I go through to be where I am now.

I know i am lucky to have found through various attempts the right medication, but I still struggle everyday with many things. I am lucky that I am one of the 25% of people with sz who are able to work (not alot of $$ though, just liveable wages) but some parts of my life (trying to establish a long term meaningful relationship) I am still searching for.

I would agree with you. Saying someone is high or low functioning doesn’t hide the fact you have sz. It’s really a disorder that affects everything on a profound level.

I appear pretty high functioning but I don’t work and there’s really good reasons why I don’t. Still. Most people who know me think I’m pretty normal…whatever that is.

Your in the grey area of mental illness as I call it. Too functioning to be disabled but barely functioning enough for work and stuff so it’s just big struggle.

Just pat yourself on the back and smile and say yeah your right it’s not bad at all.
Cuz they will never understand what you go through.
