Hello fellows, I want to know which antipsychotic in your opinion is best for cognition and has few physical side effects.
I am trying olanzapine(Zyprexa), today is day 5 and is a very bad day, both cognition wise and physically.
As well I now had intrusive sexual thoughts that I hated.
If Olanzapine doesn’t work, I am going to try it perhaps for 1-2 months and if doesn’t work try something else.
What med would you recommend?
Abilify works pretty well on my cognition.
what dose are you on? @Goyankees
Only 10 mg.
I am in high dose of zyprexa. Whopping dose of 22:5 mg.
Abilify, latuda, vraylar, and risperdal from my experience.
Cogentin, Benzos, and Topamax all made me feel dumb.
Abilify, Vraylar, Latuda, Geodon etc…
Pimozide alone is a disaster but alongside sertraline is a miracle,
Risperdal makes me less depressed, so I feel more capable. I don’t know about smarter though. Try it next.
Give the one you’re on some time.
For me, Zyprexa made me gain a lot of weight. I am talking 70 pounds. I lost some but now have been fighting weight loss for 10 years now. Not happy. The Seroquel 800 mg. I was taking didn’t help either, it makes you snack and snack until you realize you need to get the hell off it before it destroys you.
What dose of pimozide if you don’t mind me asking. Once a psychiatrist I had put me in 0,25g of pimozide I don’t know why
I take 8mg, 4mg morning and 4mg evening,
It officially kills you without sertraline but with it makes you feel really healthy and normal.
Rexulti and Latuda have been billed to be pro-cognitive. It also depends on which cognitive domains you have issues with, Olanzapine is supposed to be good for working memory. Olanzapine is a decent drug, terrible for physical health though and causes explosive weight gain. IF you are under 10mg olanzapine weight gain will still be significant. The best antipsychotic out there for cognition is probably currently Rexulti. If you want a weight neutral one ziprasidone would work, but you will have to keep track of your heart. If I were you I would try Rexulti or Latuda, Latuda is a clean drug with no muscarinic or histaminic affinity. Rexulti has robust 5ht1a partial agonism which means it should improve cognition more than its sister Abilify. If Latuda doesn’t improve your cognition it shouldn’t impact it. I felt stupid on Latuda though, of course that was short term.
When I was taking Latuda, I thought I was taking a sugar pill.
Latuda made me so ill. =(
I like Abilify / Geodon / zeldox
I’ve been taking Latuda for a little over a week. I feel like it is helping some aspects of my cognition already. This is the only AP I’ve tried, but my mom and sister also take it.
My pdoc told me they used to call it"Dopamax," but not in front of their clients.
I liked my topamax, it kept my weight down, less headaches and moods more even.
