Bad tofu and water

How do you store your tofu? I opened the package a few days ago and drained it from its water. Today I tried using it but it was all dry and smelling very bad, smells like sperm :face_vomiting:

I threw all the package in the garbage, its 400g.

Should I keep future packages in its water? How long can I keep it in the fridge?

I would like to know more about Tofu as it’s part of my menu plan my doctor gave me.

Never had Tofu before.

What does it taste like I wonder?

Tofu is supposed to stay in the water and is only good for a few days.

store the tofu in a container filled with clean and cold water in the fridge. Cook and consume leftover tofu within two or three days, but change the water in the container daily to preserve the tofu’s freshness.

Yes. @anon4362788 is right. You keep it in the water until you’re ready to eat it. Once opened, it’s only good for a few days. If you don’t like it wet, here’s what you do: put paper towels on a plate. Put the whole block of tofu on the paper towels. Place more paper towels on top and then a heavy plate on top of the paper towels for 15 minutes. It sucks the moisture out. If it’s still too moist after 15 minutes, replace the wet paper towels with dry ones and do it again for another 15 minutes. Hope that helps!

There’s no such thing as good tofu. If the package says tofu, it’s bad. Toss it out and buy something edible instead.

Thanks! @anon4362788 @LilyoftheValley

I will try finding single packages less than 400g. I am the only one eating it so 400g in 2 days is too much.

Tofu is great in salads.

Tofu is pretty versatile, and it’s like a sponge for whatever you marinade it in. It’s great with a whole range of spices.

Don’t forget to press it though, because it contains a lot of water. You can buy a tofu press or just use 2 plates, some paper towels, and a weight on top. That way it will be able to soak up the marinade.

There’s also silken tofu, which is soft and can be used in desserts.

I’m a fan of tofu.

Salads are great in the rubbish bin.

(I eat them under protest.)

You leave the package closed until you’re ready to use it. Then open it and drain the water and use the tofu.

Tofu shouldn’t smell like anything so not sure what happened with your tofu. Even tofu used past its “best by” date doesn’t usually smell. It can have a slightly sour taste though.

It smelled and tasted bad, definitively not like the same day I opened the package.

I think the best by date is not for when you open the package. Others are right, once its open it doesnt last more than 2-3 days. Mine wasnt even in water too.

I’d rather have the alien and Arnold Swartzenaggar from “Predator” join together as a tag team and kick my ass everyday for the next 20 years then ever eat tofu again.

I honestly prefer tofu to meat and I’m not a vegeterian or a vegan.
