Automation is horrible

People are going to make it bad huh.

Automation would set people free.

They are going to make it bad though?

Make robots to build homes, but no one is getting paid to build the homes, they starve, no need to build homes.

What is this crazy ■■■■?

That’s where an updated form of socialism comes in

High hopes.

Pipe dreams.

What other alternatives are there than a more current form of socialism?

There are alternatives, im not saying there aren’t.

But you know them better than that right?

I know the solutions are complex, but maybe you can briefly explain what you propose

Pan - by your thinking, it seems like almost everything is “horrible”. Please try to take a more balanced view on things.

So far - has automation been good or bad for society? Compared to life 200 years ago when everything was done by hand - I think most people would say its generally been helpful.

Sure - I’m sure it was very painful for some groups of people who lost their jobs and had to learn new skills, and its important not to trivialize that.

But at the same time you have to look at the longer view of things - and I think most people would say that in general its been helpful. Its nice to have trains so I don’t have to walk everywhere. Its nice to have computers and equipment making things - so people don’t have to sit their doing mind-numbing repetitive work anymore.

Would I like to have a self-driving car so I can spend more time reading and working instead of driving a car - absolutely! Will that hurt the auto industry - absolutely. Should it be done (self-driving cars allowed) - I think it should.

In the future automation and robots and artificial intelligence - may cause bigger disruptions in society - and there will need to be groups to look carefully at that. But still - the sky isn’t falling. Its too early to tell if things will be bad, or will continue to be good as they have been in the past when automation happened.

The Zeitgeist Movement, Thrive, The Venus Project, The New Earth Nation project - loads of other grass roots stuff. There are genuine alternatives to a revamped socialism - socialism in all it’s forms has failed, capitalism has failed - we need a new approach, & there are the alternatives.

Wouldn’t socialism be a transitional tool in the transition from a monetary system. Don’t see how a moneyless system would work without some wealth redistribution

“Classic” Socialism is supposed to be the transition between capitalism and and the communist end-goal of the Dictatorship of the Prolitariat (a word coined by Marx/Engells)

Very much agreed. I don’t care for some of the upshots of robotics, either, but I can easily see the benefits. Does pretty much everything new come with trade-offs of costs and benefits? Looks that way.

Serious & in depth question as to how/if we transition from the current systems to a resource based one?

There has NEVER been a moneyless society? If there has, plz educate me

What did we do for 2 million years? - At least 70 thousand years from a main transition/shift. The truth is we lived without money/an economic system for the vast majority of our history - the past 6 thousand years things have altered - especially over the past 350 odd years & with the agricultural/industrial revolutions. But to conclude that it’s impossible to organise an advanced society without an economic system, is insane - of course it can be done. The current economic systems is in fact more of a sign of just how unadvanced & uncivilised we actually are.

It matters Not - all the information/knowledge is out there of how it can all be done, & has been there for well over 150 years. i can’t change this society/World - it’s an insane asylum, mass stupidity & ignorance dominate - we’re headed to civilisation collapse - i no longer care - people get what they deserve.

The kids starting kind Der Garten this year will be doing jobs after their schooling that don’t even exist right now.

…yeeeah… but, there has always been some sort of deals going on… by saying money I dont mean dollar bills. You know.

[/quote]I agree, but feel naive while agreeing. I know that from a spiritual/humanistic viewpoint, it’s the only logical conclusion. But human “nature” man… It’s evil ■■■■■■■ ■■■■.

I’d still be on the street in all black when the shhtf.

i disagree that the primary issue is human nature - that is a lie imo.

Calling it a lie is a bit harsh, but I tend to agree thus the “”"

Don’t think people really understand the implications of technology & current trajectory. Unless the social/economic systems are transformed, it’s going to be very bleak - Not even getting into the transhumanist/singularity lunacy agendas.
