Association between prolactin and thyroid hormones with severity of psychopathology and suicide risk in drug free male schizophrenia

If prolactin levels are associated with negative symptoms I wonder how this relates to risperdal/risperidone and the fact it can increase prolactin levels. Is this a reason to suspect increased lack of drive and motivation while on it can be medication related ?

I had a real bad time on respiradone. Complete lack of libido. Realise now this was due to elevated prolactin. Didn’t know this hormone was also associated with psychopathology.

Another earlier piece of research showing increased prolactin levels in drug naive patients .

I have been on Risperdal for years now, although my prolactin levels are just a bit over normal range - my libido is almost non existent.
Man, it’s like I have very little drive - wish I felt more Alive!

Yeah @Wave. That sounds a lot like my experience with respiradone. But when disregarding the side effects does it control your symptoms well. It did nothing to touch my psychosis so I could happily stop it. It seems to be a wonder drug from some people - but at a cost.

Not only did it kill my libido it also caused erectile dysfunction. I ended up requiring Viagra. Luckily I didn’t have a partner at the time as I expect that could be difficult.
