As a woman and what the history means

Its funny…the vikings woman could rule…their voice counted in the moot…and they could fight along side their male counter parts…then christianity happend…yea they had slaves but you could earn your freedom and citizenship… Most former slaves stayed and became productive members of society…so blame your god and your church for setting woman and all of humanity back thosands of years…

When i was a child female Drs, Lawyers newscasters etc was unheard of. I was a little kid at the cusp of the feminist wave of Burn Your Bra (I wasn’t old enough to have one)
I have seen a lot of changes in my life
I wanted so bad for girls sports in my high school
didn’t have it
equality is a good thing

Really, no other religion does that?

No other religion systemically converted raped and murdered such large portions of the planet…

Okay, we’ve gone anti-trans, anti-feminist, and now anti-Christian in this thread. How many other groups can we hate on while we’re at it?

Hell yea…plus im salty today lol

That is hopefully a link to an informative article. Every major religion has a component of subjugating women. I’m not saying Christianity has not, so I’m not arguing that specific, but it’s humanity’s tendency, not a specific religion’s.

I forget what tribes these are, but there are several native american tribes where the women are basically in charge because the men admit rightly that they tend to be more mature human beings.

patriarchy
is a failure world wide
its time for the new era

I am all for equality for women. However it is interesting to note that many of the women bemoaning male privilege are themselves educated, middle class and privileged . Certainly they are more privileged than poor black or white males.

The vikings were pretty nasty and vicious people. I remember reading about this one viking they called “the babies’ man” because he refused to engage in the viking practice of taking all the babies in a town they had raided and tossing them up in the air and catching them on their spears. I’m not a Christian, but in this case I think the Christianizing was an improvement.

Way to start your post out with the most generic and common way of approaching this subject…

Male privilege also includes the respect we get just by being males. Doesn’t really change if we’re poor.

Unless you’re short like me (5’5-5’6),then you get no respect from anybody…really my whole life I’ve been ridiculed, discriminated, mocked, dejected for something I couldnt control. I don’t think average height women can say the same. But there’s no activism for the rights of height disadvantaged people at all when there should be

We always will find ways to discriminate.

Plus were on a forum for schizophrenia…schizophrenic men get no respect from hospital workers

Muslims, lgbt,

Why can’t we just all acknowledge we equally have a soul and that’s all that should count

Inequality is dumb.

■■■■ it tho…being zen and enlightenment and thick skin ftw

My sister’s boyfriend is short, around 5 8, he was bullied in high school… wonder if that’s a factor. never thought about it until now. I mean i was bullied and I’m 6’0"… (i was skinny and didn’t have a lot of friends) :expressionless:

Good ideas

I treat women as equals. What the hell else do you want from me? Christ almighty.

It was an honest and reasonably stated post. Being male doesn’t make you privileged necessarily any more than being female makes you not privileged.
If you are arguing privilege vs non non privilege on the grounds of social class, non disabled vs disabled and things like that IMO you are on firmer ground.
As a man with a chronic and severe mental illness on long term disability benefits I can assure I get precious little in the way of privilege or respect.

The bottom line, an educated, middle class woman with a good job is more privileged and more likely to be respected than me.

it’s not hatred, @Rhubot, long live Adrienne Rich.
