Are you legally incompetent?

What I mean is cause I dont know the exact word in english is that does someone else manage your papers such as tax declaration bank accounts etc? I am really scared to end up like this so I refuse to follow my pdocs treatment plan he wants to do tests and stuff but I dont do them… I just wish I would get my meds and be left alone. Ive applied for disability and I wanna leave the country when I get it I just hate that doctors can ■■■■ you up like this.

Usually it is for your own good.

That’s actually good way to get declared as incompetent. It’s better to follow medical direction.

My psychiatric care provider used to my Representative Payee on my Social Security check, meaning the government paid them my money, and they managed it for me. I haven’t been declared mentally incompetent by a court however, which means I can still vote in elections. Maybe five years ago my case manager made me my own Payee, and I now manage my own money.

Could be but what if the test says I have low iq or something? And its definetly not for my own good why should they dictate how I am gonna live my life?

First, you don’t know if you’re incompetent. If you are, you want to know. Second, just because you could be incompetent now doesn’t mean this will always be the case. The treatments are very good these days, many are restored to a much higher level of function through them. To get that treatment you need to be diagnosed properly. It’s a process that can work well if you’re willing to work with it.

Then why are you so afraid? You will not be declared incompetent if you aren’t.

I think it’s fair to be worried about that. Being declared incompetent is definitely a fear I’ve had before.

It’s scary to think of having your freedoms stripped from you whether it’s for the best or not.

That being said though @Echidna
I think it’s better to follow the doctors orders

Cause missing tests and appointments could have the opposite effect of what you’re hoping for.

Prove to them you are competent
