Are you guys able to get free internet/wifi?

currently I’m paying $84 a month for internet.

Phil is looking into how I can get a discount, or free!

I heard that on disability you can get free internet in the US. I am not in the US and I live with my parents so they pay the internet, 73$CA with taxes. I think Xfinity is popular in the US.

I have broadband only and that’s £26.50 a month for 50mbps

Mine comes from a cable company, so there is no line rental to pay like when you have a home phone, so it’s much cheaper.

Not all homes are on this network though, but they are rolling it out further here in my town

I have free WiFi. I live in an apartment above a business and have the password of their WiFi.

$84 sounds expensive. I’ll bet you can find a better deal.

The government passed a bill that puts $50 toward the internet of low income people. If you qualify for food stamps, SSI, or other assistance, you can get the broadband benefit.

Just read up on it and it’s being changed to $30 a month.

That’s not true. Wish it was.

Comcast (now Xfinity) seems to offer a $10 internet plan for people who are disabled, among other criteria. Xfinity serves most of the US.

It doesn’t hurt to call your internet service provider and ask about rates for disabled people, poor people, etc.

Comcast’s $10 internet plan opens up to all low-income and disabled Americans – TechCrunch.

$110/mth for gig fiber.

Look around. There’s various programs for disabled or low income people to get free or discounted internet in California. Probably in other states too. I’m locked into a contract with ATT so I pay $45 a month. Ask your case worker or therapist. They hear of these things through their other clients and may know something about it. If big companies are having promotional deals for new customers you may be able to get it cheaper than $84. ATT, XFINITY and Comcast offer deals all the time.

@Daze I get free Google Fiber because I’m in a low income building. I recommend calling Google. They’re a great company to work with. Plus they rarely spam me.

Holy moly. 84$ for internet? That’s really expensive. I would change my internet provider if I was you.

Elsewhere (not at home), got a dsl connection that costs me 14 € :open_mouth:
The download speed is very low.

Here, in my town, fiber costs about from 15€ to 40 €

There is so much competition here that the prices are low.
At the time there were only 3 cell phone operators and I think they agreed on the prices (illegally of course.)
Since a new operator arrived on the market (well over 10 years ago.) the prices have dropped completely, so that it is possible to have a subscription for 5 euros for 20 GB (data subscription with unlimited calls.)
At 20 euros you get unlimited data.
