I’m thinking that because I’m almost 40 years old and I’m schizophrenic no ‘trainers’ would take me seriously.
Is it too late to become an athlete?

What kind of athlete do you want to become?
Bicyclist

I don’t know much about professional bicyclists. Only one I ever heard of is Lance Armstrong but I would guess bicycling would be one of the sports…like golf for instance…where you could probably still compete while you were a little older.
I heard the world title for professional shuffleboard champion is still up for grabs.
you can be an amateur, but typically male professional athletes are in their prime at age 26-32 or so now that the doping era is coming to an end. some sports you can be competitive at an older age. not sure about cycling. these guys have been training their whole life usually and are in their prime.
The average cyclist is 5’11” tall.
I’m 6’1”.
The problem is I don’t have long legs. I have a long torso. I wonder how f there’s any cycling trainers in town.
There’s some people i see on strava go for 30-60 miles. So someone near me knows how to do it.
Do you know how many calories a day I should be eating if I’m training?
Edit: probably lots of nuts and fish???
I heard that cycling is a bit like the worlds strongest man. To reach the top training helps but it is mostly having good genetics. Some cyclists will literally never be able to compete because they aren’t lucky enough to have naturally great cardio
i guess it all depends on your goals and how much time a day your putting on the bicycle. if you want to maintain your weight you need to eat enough that you don’t lose, if you want to trim down, you need less calories. there are probably calorie calculaturs you can find online that will help you come up with a guess on how many calories you need. they are not always accurate, so you may have to watch the scale and adjust accordingly.
don’t know about nuts and fish, nuts are good, you will need some carbs to restore glycogen. maybe rice and beans and a couple protein shakes a day, that is what i would do, but im vegetarian.
maybe @Aziz knows a little more about it?
Yes, carbs to restore glycogen and protein to repair and build muscle.
You need to eat the least fat possible if you need to be competetive.
