An interesting point is that such hooliganism is reserved only for English football. In rugby you never see any of this type of stuff. In fact I don’t think the fans are even segregated in the stadium.
PS here in the west coast of Scotland there can be a sectarian sentiment to club football sometimes - with animosity between rival teams. This does not translate into Scottish international fans. The tartan army are very like Irish fans in fact and are usually very agreeable

Interesting. The portuguese fans unite for the european and world tournaments, but when it comes to teams all hell brakes loose. There’s always violence and some sections like the No name boys and the Juveleo are known nazis. It’s really sad. Most supporters are peaceful, though.
Even the police choses sides.
