Just discovered it in a book I’m reading. Sounds interesting.
Gnosticism=believes that humans were destined for something better than we have now but somewhere in history something went terribly wrong and messed it up for us. Pretty much we should be in Utopia but were not.
That’s all I know about it
is that the we can neither confirm nor deny. so we keep everything open just in case?
Terence McKenna talks about Gnosticism a great deal
I haven’t watched these but heres some videos
That appeals to me - A Terrible Mistake = because I was always called a mistake.
thats agnosticism which is different i believe
I’m fairly familiar with it.
If you want a book dedicated to talking solely about Gnosticism and it’s philosophy then Elaine Pagel’s, the Gnostic Gospels is a good place to start.
Atheist gnomes?
I thought the practice of alchemy was an example of Gnosticism. It is a sort of mysticism, yes?
Yes. The gnostic Gospels are great. Especially thomas’s
I read about it and its relationships with proto-christianity, there have been many different gnostic sects during the centuries.
Well you’ve inspired me to listen to these Terence McKenna lectures in my car. Thanks
Gnosis, Greek word for knowledge, saves
yes but it was some obscure knowledge, for example I heard they believed you had to say a secret word when you was dead to be saved.
I only know that it means with knowledge. A gnostic atheist has knowledge that there is no god, where a gnostic theist has knowledge that there is.
The gnostics were one of the first christianic sects… They believed in invisible demons called archons.
Real ■■■■… Direct ancestry of modern religious thinking.
Otherwise the Gnostics were “In the know” knew god and all that… They were just mystics in reality… real spooky stuff.
We don’t allow religious discussions on this site. This for a couple of reasons. First, it tends to cause arguments, because for some reason people can’t seem to just respect each other’s different religious beliefs. Second, many folks suffer from religious delusions. It is one of the top three topics of delusion, alongside aliens and government conspiracies. We don’t allow discussions on those topics, either. Third, there are many members here who were subjected to exorcisms by family members who, sadly, did not understand their illness. Those memories can be very traumatic for those individuals, and they don’t need to be reminded of them.
I hope you can understand, and help keep this a safe place for everyone. Thanks
