Anyone with cell phone advice?

The last time I left Little Rock was in 2005. I went to Lonoke a small town in Arkansas and my Cricket cell phone wouldn’t work there.

I now have a prepaid Total Wireless phone, and Verizon recently bought them out. I called customer service to find out if my current phone will roam and work in Texas. One person told me it wouldn’t, but another one said it would.

Have you ever had a problem with a prepaid phone not working in a different area code or your next door state?

I don’t have advice as I’ve never used a prepaid phone, but I’m bumping this back up for you

My phone cost $50 and is a good phone paid by the government along with 500 free minutes a month. It’s called TracFone, are you eligible? This is America, the land of plenty and everyone should have a phone.

My therapist got on my case about have three phones. Phone #1 is a cheap TracFone that when you text customer service it says the phone is disconnected, but you can make calls on it anyway. I have no idea if how long it will continue to work. Phone #2 is from the cable company. It works, but when I try to verify my identity to my online banking stuff, it doesn’t work and says my name and zip code doesn’t match what is on file for the phone. Phone #3 with Verizon works and online banking can verify my identity using this phone.

So this is why I have three phones, and am really hoping the Total Wireless by Verizon will work in Texas. These data bases that these companies use on you are really screwed up.

I know about the free government phones but I don’t qualify for food stamps, Medicaid, or live in Section 8 housing.

Safelink wireless. Through the ACP program. You qualify if you are on disability or have limited income. It has decent service. If you are working you may not quaĺify though. I think prepaid phones dont hvmave the best national service. Although i had Walmarts Straight Talk and i got service everywhere.

I’m just on disability $24k a year, plus I’ll receive an additional $1.9k from a private pension when I turn 65. I’m 63 going on 64 now.

This has me incredibly worried that you have fallen victim to identity theft, where someone changed your name and contact info to theirs.

Thanks ninjastar. I found out in the Fall of 2021 that my name, DOB, and SSN were used to fraudulently claim pandemic unemployment funds. I filled a police report, went to the unemployment office and reported it to them, and filed an identity theft report with the IRS. I checked my three credit bureau reports and the wasn’t anything there that wasn’t mine. I also did Check Systems too and there wasn’t any bounced checks.
