Anyone tried trintellix? (vortioxetine)

Hi guys, I saw p’doc today and he switched me from viibryd to trintellix today. Anyone have experience with this AD? Just curious if it’s helped anyone, thanks!

I gotta say stuff is amazing for motivation. Day 1 and I feel good, cleaned a room I’ve been putting off for months. I am a little itchy but no GI problems, viibryd was much harsher on my stomach and it’s actually feeling better since the switch. I’m going to update here with any more results.

viibryd and trintellix are pretty similar (both classes as SMS’s) but have some difference between them i believe…i dont remember what it is off the top of my head but i dont think its major differences in mechanism. what i do know about them is that they can be conceptualized as a mix of an ssri and buspar. buspar is usually prescribed for generalized anxiety, ive seen mixed opinions about it among patients and on the forum of psychiatrists i snoop on to see what they think. ive heard buspar has shown some evidence that it could be an effective add on to ssri’s, sort of boosting their action, so theoretically SMS’s could be more effective than ssri’s or buspar alone though as is typical with anti depressants i dont think there is much clinically useful differences in effectiveness between ssri’s and sms’s

Wow thanks that’s great info, all I found were terrible reviews on side effects. Its interesting because before viibryd he had me on a mix of buspar and vraylar. I know viibryd and trentillex are in the same kind of class but with viibryd I never felt anything except side effects so I’m hoping it stays a positive experience. Thanks again for taking the time!

a little more digging tells me trintellix is also an antagonist of the 5-HT7 receptor which is supposed to have pro cognitive benefits. im not sure but i dont think viibryd does that, so thats one difference between the two

I really liked Vortioxetine when I was taking it, took it for over a year at least & I’ll likely start it again after stopping it for 8 months. Perhaps not the most potent, but it really helped with bringing me back into life which most medications fail to do for me. The drug has a short half-life for some people, so if you have problems with the effect you might want to consider speaking to your p’doc about splitting the dose into two seperate doses (unless this is already planned). I hope it works well for you! :grinning:

Yes I noticed that I can feel it wear off by night time some days. My doc said I’m ok to start 20mg two pills if my stomach can handle it. I’m planning to do the split like you suggested. Thanks for the input hope you have a great day!

The one thing I don’t miss about Vortioxetine is the effect it had on the stomach heh, otherwise I didn’t get any real side-effects. No problem & the same to you!

Im on day 11 and have been on 20mg for two days now.

POSITIVES:
I’m motivated to pursue passions again, happier overall with more energy. I went from taking three meds to only this one.

NEGATIVES:
I’m excited and have trouble sleeping again. I think about everything I want to accomplish at night. The worst is the itching. I’m a pretty tough man but I’m burning all over legs, arms, back, head…
Benadryl works to a certain point but I can itch anywhere on my body and once I do it once I can’t stop… usually multiple places at once. If the histamine doesn’t go down than I might consider something else but I will wait it out as long as I can.
