Anyone’s SZ/SZA come from PTSD?

My therapist has said my schizoaffective disorder was borne out of PTSD from something that happened when I was a young child. Has anyone else been told something similar?

The thought is that if we heal the PTSD, we heal the schizoaffective disorder.

I think mine came from cptsd. But I’ve gotten a lot of treatment for my ptsd, yet the sza gets worse.

I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in what therapist’s say about psychiatric matters…

Trauma is a cause of SZ.

I think trauma is a trigger for sz in those already predisposed for it.

SZ/SZA/Bipolar are biological in nature.
Trauma can definitely play a role

Whatever the case, getting therapy for your trauma can help your sz symptoms and your recovery.

I finally won the bigger bear at Skee Ball. Maybe I should have popped balloons. All my life the wrong game…

I think that many people are diagnosing themselves with PTSD.
I think it’s overused.

Many psychiatrists put PTSD in the back burner when it comes to psychotic patients.

Psychosis management always comes first.

ptsd in it’s true form is devastating

Yes I know, I just wish the pdocs would take it more seriously

@Wave agreed
i have no doubt it was a slow burning trauma being psychotic for years
but ptsd is like you get only able to feel okay amongst other war veterans talking about the trauma of watching all your platoons legs being torn off
this being the only time you come alive…
and find that you rage most days with huge antisocial anger
and god it’s difficult to watch too

I wasn’t diagnosed with PTSD but I hear it’s just awful to live with.

No but my first psychosis episode gave me a bit of ptsd. Still to this day if I hear someone crying I get flashback memory.
