Yes, no medicine for me. I tapered down and got off Geodon due to the side effects of akathisia, tardive dyskinesia, mental fog, weight gain, elevated blood sugar (A1c).

Fully recovered? No. I still hear voices, have delusions, etc. I have learned coping skills through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I am high functioning. I live with my boyfriend. I attend a local community college. I have 2 part-time jobs. But schizophrenia is for life. It never goes away.

I don’t think you’d be schizophrenic if you had no symptoms off meds.

I don’t think being symptom-free is an option once you get the diagnosis, but it is possible for some people to learn to manage their symptoms well enough to become med-free.

Sz can have periods where there’s no psychosis so a person can have no issues for a while and then it just reappears, and the person needs meds again. Some people suffer all the time, but not everyone.

Typical sz don’t want to take medicine, its a goal to live without medications. It takes half a year till the brain recovered from the meds.
You can reach enlightenment with medication by living healthy and moderate exercise.
