I’m considering getting one for my blu ray collection (I no longer have a ps3 which I used to play them on), and maybe also start buying 4k blu ray movies. I have googled a bit and it seems like every player I read about on forums there’s people reporting freezing issues. I’m looking for a reliable player that doesn’t cost too much, if that exists.
Id just go on Amazon and check the reviews for each one.
You need a 4k tv to play 4k movies too.
Good idea… didn’t think about that. I can’t order from there because I think shipping would be a lot, but I can read about them and buy them elsewhere.
Yup, I’m 95% certain my TV is 4k.
Also check that it’s fully 4k. And you should get a fast hdmi wire.
So that’s just hdmi version 1.4 or up from what I understand? According to google they both support 4k, but 1.4 supports 30hz and 2.0 60hz
It’s all above my head. I don’t understand it. Just when we got ours we needed a good hdmi wire also.
First thing you need to do is check the spec of your tv. 4k video comes with hdr in most circumstances. There are 3 main forms of hdr available depending on your tv.
The wire you use can depend on what type of hdmi socket your tv supports.
You have your tv model there? Could look it up for you?
@el_Jimbobbio I think this is my TV
It’s a 2018 model
copilot says yes!
Yes, the Philips 50PUS6503/12 is a 4K UHD LED Smart TV. It features a 50-inch screen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, providing sharp and clear images. The TV also includes HDR Plus for enhanced contrast, color, and sharpness, as well as Pixel Precise Ultra HD for smooth and detailed images
Yep supports 4k hdr. Has an hdmi 2.0 socket. You are good to go with a 4k blu ray player!
if you are a gamer kill two birds with one stone and get a xbox series x or a ps5 slim with disc blu ray player perhaps
Cool. I’ve never actually understood what HDR is. I know it’s like higher dynamic range, darker blacks and brighter whites. Is it basically just more information across the range of brightness of pixels?
That is it exactly. Tbh hdr is more impressive than the actual 4k resolution
I had an xbox series x but sold it. Only because the controller gave me physical pain, it was too big for me and I have issues with pain in fingers where I’m sensitive to bad ergonomics unfortunately. Else it’s a great idea.
i think the ps5 controller is meant to be better.
Yeah perhaps, I’ve never had problems with the controllers for other playstations, so if it’s anything like that maybe I would be good. I can’t spend a lot of money now though and I have a desktop PC that is a beast. Also Sony has started releasing exclusives on PC in the last years which is cool.
i am playing guitar instead of gaming personally.
A good way to use your time… have you played for long? I play a bit myself, have an electric with a small amp and an acoustic that I bought when I was 15, still plays great.
I have been playing since january only and had a couple of breaks, but i am back on it now.
Loving it with my small amp too!
