Just wondering if people like honey, I do.
Honey is not healthier than sugar. They’re both unhealthy if eaten too much.
That said, occasionally I enjoy honey on a piece of bread.
Do you know the brand of honey you use? Does it taste nice
Actually you don’t have to answer that
IDK. Yeah it tastes good.
I love honey it’s also good in coffee
Honey is the one food that doesn’t spoil. They found honey in 2000 year old Egyptian structures that was still edible.
I love honey on cornbread!
You have to be careful with honey. A lot of it is fake honey. So now I buy raw honey now and then. Apparently China bulks up honey with bad sugars and then import it to the rest of the world.
Every honey tested in the uk was fake with added bad sugars.
You have to be careful with these dodgy honey’s
If your honey says non-EU, then it’s likely fake honey from china
You want European honey, China is making people ill by doing this.
Oh wow didn’t know that thanks
Actually, it is:
General Health Benefits of Honey:
- Antioxidant Properties: Honey contains various antioxidants, including phenolic compounds like flavonoids. These help neutralize free radicals in the body, potentially reducing oxidative stress and the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Raw honey tends to have higher levels of these beneficial compounds.
- Blood Sugar Management: Honey has a lower glycemic index (GI) than refined sugar, meaning it may not spike blood sugar levels as quickly. Some research suggests it might even enhance insulin sensitivity. However, it’s still a form of sugar and should be consumed in moderation, especially by individuals with diabetes. Monitoring blood sugar levels after consumption is advisable.
- Heart Health: Some studies indicate that honey may help improve heart health markers by lowering blood pressure, improving blood fat levels (reducing LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides while potentially increasing HDL “good” cholesterol), and preventing the death of healthy cells.
- Wound Healing: Honey, particularly medical-grade and Manuka honey, has shown significant potential in wound healing due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can inhibit the growth of various bacteria and promote tissue regeneration. However, it’s recommended to consult a healthcare professional before using honey for treating wounds, and store-bought honey may not be sterile.
- Cough Suppressant: Honey has been found to be an effective and inexpensive cough suppressant for some people, especially children with upper respiratory infections. Its thick texture may soothe the throat. However, honey should never be given to infants under one year old due to the risk of botulism.
- Gut Health: Honey possesses prebiotic properties that can help ferment healthy gut bacteria like Lactobacilli, which are beneficial for digestion and overall gut health.
- Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties: Honey contains compounds like hydrogen peroxide, defensin-1, and propolis that contribute to its antimicrobial effects, helping to kill harmful bacteria and fungi.
- Brain Protection: Some research suggests that the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory powers of honey may benefit the brain by boosting memory capacity and preventing neuron damage.
Sugar isn’t much more than a preservative and a source of empty calories. Honey has many established health benefits. I substitute it for sugar whenever a recipe calls for it, and I like to have one cup of tea with a bit of honey every evening.
That cereal screams toxic to me. That obviously contains fake honey. I’d eat that cereal and become depressed from the whack honey in it and who knows what else. I’ve moved on from 90s cereal fad
I don’t eat cereals or meats smothered in fake honey anymore.
I like to buy raw local honey from local bee farmers here in AZ. You can even buy real honeycomb from them. Delicious. Also great for allergies. 1 tablespoon a day during allergy season works so well
Yeah sure. When I make healthy oat-bars/flapjacks. On pancakes with butter. On waffles with butter and southern fried chicken fillets
Raw honey is epic. I get raw honey from the same supplier and even though it’s from the same bees, the flavour changes throughout the year depending on the season.
I am not supposed to have honey on my keto diet but this honey is amazing. This is one of my few cheats.
It is real raw florida honey because I know the bee keepers. They move the bees around florida for a few weeks at a time and when the bees are in the orange groves the honey takes on an orange flavor and when the bees are in the palmetto scrub forests the honey takes on a slightly different flavor
I bought my mum a jar of Orkney honey recently.
Honey makes my motion hard
I don’t dislike honey. I just don’t buy it often.
