I went to work everyday - didn’t realize how sedated I was but for a decade driving to work fender benders every year, a lot of bumper to bumper with no damage. Lost a few cars.
Wow - why did I drive. It was seroquel.

I drive all the time on AP’s. Don’t know how sedated I am though. I drive fine.
@Bowens Glad you can drive safely.
Looking back - now that im on geodon - i feel completely different - that sedation became so normal i didn’t think about it - didn’t realize that falling asleep at the wheel was a problem.
I can drive much better now— I feel a little sedated at times. But its only occasional. i wish I was not so wreckless before.
I drive sedated every time I get behind the wheel.
These psych meds are typically sedating.
Nothing I can do about it.
Antipsychotics are also known as major tranquilizers and benzos are known as minor tranquilizers and I’m on both. I work as a delivery driver and drive 6-8 hours a day 2-3 days a week, plus my personal driving but I don’t feel tranquilized.
When I first started clonazepam (benzo) I did feel tranquilized some of the time but that eventually passed.
My AP doesn’t effect me in that way at all.
Yeah I’ll drive on low doses of clonazepam
I drive better on clonazepam because it relaxes me on the road
Been doing it for almost 40 years. Rarely get tickets or have accidents. Had an accident a month ago though.
Geodon doesn’t affect my driving. I have Haldol as a PRN and I won’t for drive three days after taking one as it really makes me drag.
I don’t drive after taking my clozapine at night. I drive when I wake up in the morning though.
I drove on Haldol. I delivered pizza on Haldol, as a matter of fact. I’ve only driven in heavy traffic in a city once, though. I don’t think I can get a driver’s license now, because I have been declared “incapacitated”.
Yesterday the police stopped me and breath tested me for alcohol as I ran a red because I thought it was orange.
They said count to ten and I started counting.
They eventually got me to understand that I was to count to ten on breathalyser not just in air.
They probably thought I was a bit simple.
Maybe I am.
One has ones moments.
The police were nice to me.
I had taken sleeping tablet five or six hours earlier I think.
Only slept few hours then drove.
My boyfriend drove 13 hours and I drove only one hour.
Now he is sick.
God heal him hey.
I drove five hours Thursday.
I drove on olanzapine some how too.ha ha ha ha ha
Now I’m on latuda.
I don’t usually drive far but we went away on a car trip and it was out of comfort zone.
For some reason - even after so many accidents - i did not stop driving. I could have killed someone. Nodding off on a 30 minute commute was wrong. I am glad all I did was harm my car and not someone’s life. I was so focused on getting to work - I never told my docs about these and tried to hide it from my spouse. Except when the car was a complete wreck. Really distorted thinking or not thinking - my state of sedation was so normalized to me.
Also nodded off at work. Would feel so embarrassed when someone realized I was asleep at my desk.
Yes i used to drive to work. I fell asleep behind the wheel and had a minor car accident. It was one of the reasons i quit my job.
My pdoc was pushing me to work. He said if I lost my job I won’t have insurance. So I had to endure so much suffering and delusions and humiliation at work.
I guess its would have been too early to be on disability in my 30s.
Glad you made the right decision for you @Sezbot241
