Any results with Sarcosine

Has anyone used Profrontal (Sarcosine) with success without meds? There have posts saying they are ordering but I don’t see them reposting how they are doing on it. I just ordered it for my son. Hoping for good results!

sarcosine is not supposed to be taken INSTEAD of meds but as an add-on to help with negative symptoms

im taking it for a week now (togeher with aripiprazole) and ive started to feel something
whats that something im not sure yet but its deff not a placebo
its like im more capable and more functional across the board

I’ve read that it is an add on but I have also read where it has helped a few people without meds. Are you taking Profrontal? My son will not take meds so this theonly thing I have left to try.

The question what happens if you try just sarcosine( or with meds) interests me as well.
We are waiting for replies. In any case I believe it is worth a try.

im lucky one because i have zero side effects from my ap
so i dont know his reasons to quit meds

but i really doubt that sarcosine alone will help him with positives
all research ive read are of sarcosine as an add-on to stabilized therapy

He read the side effects. Do you mind me asking what you take?

he won’t try anything other then CBD oil which he is refusing today. I truly don’t know what to do. He won’t talk to anyone either. I am at my wits end. Im open to suggestions from anyone!

the only thing that treats positives (that i know of) is an antipsychotic
so he really should take it if he want to get better

make sure he understand that ap is mostly safe way out and definitely worth a try

aripiprazole brexpriprazole and cariprazine are the newest meds and he should feel little side effects if any at all

try to let him play chess. It is great for me, and I also saw a study where schizophrenics were taught to play chess,
it showed cognitive benefits and most patients kept playing well after the study was over.
Plus solving chess puzzles is great.
Plus I recommend that he does physical exercise, running fast or rowing if fit, swimming if less fit.

thanks everyone for replying. He was such an athlete and fun guy. He now sits in his room paranoid, and extremely withdrawn. I literally can’t get him to do or take anything. I’m afraid to push to hard,. I don’t want a negative reaction.
We tried to get him on meds when he was willing but his insurance would only prescribe older meds and he wasn’t having it. Too many horrible side effects.
This is all very new to me. I need guideness and I appreciate your help. Thank you

Are you referring to the meds or Sarcosine?

I don’t trust sarcosine yet because of prostate problems (my family has problems with it).

does sarcosine restore energy taken away from the medication?

I don’t take meds. But I do take sarcosine.
It helps a bit it’s hard to know sometimes because I still have avolition and lack motivation.

@misty, I’d like to encourage you to join our forum for Family and Caregivers that can be found at:

While this is a peer support forum for people with schizophrenia and other closely related psychotic disorders, the Family forum is specifically for people like yourself, who have a loved one they are concerned about.

Also, please let your loved one know about this forum as they may find it helpful.

Both of my brothers take sarcosine only. It does not stop their hallucinations or delusions, but it gives them more motivation and helps with disorganized thinking. They are doing better than they were before taking sarcosine, but not as well as they would be doing if they took medication.

Hope this helps,
