Any of you are not going to celebrate Christmas?

It seems like Christmas is for kids.
Mine are grown, and there is too much extended family.
I guess since its just me, the kids will fill their obligations and get around to me when they can. im feeling sorry for myself…**

I am unfortunately

So you’re not even an atheist, you’re a fence-sitter. When it comes down to it, you’re neither one or the other. You are like lukewarm tea or watered down ale. In political terms you would be Ed Millibland. You disappoint me, Mr Ashley. I thought you would have had the courage of your convictions to ignore this annual festival of the sun gods. I was wrong.

So, happy CHRISTmas Mr ‘Atheist’!

Best wishes,

Christmas is not just for Christians. That’s like saying you have to believe in ghosts to go trick-or-treating. We all have the right and freedom to celebrate or not celebrate as we see fit.

@Padster please refrain from direct insults and name calling.

I would certainly refrain from direct insults and name-calling, were I to have made any.

But if you do not claim to be a Christian, or indeed, a Pagan, then what are you celebrating? Of course, I rule out people who are ‘doing it for the kids’ here. I understand that Christmas is part of a fondly-remembered childhood, and no-one should deny it to their kids. But as for everyone else, they don’t seem to realise what it is all about. It is just an excuse for a piss-up. Atheists think they can celebrate it as a purely pagan festival, yet still put decorations up in their house, a peculiarly Christian practice. But Christian or not, ALL the symbolism in the tree and decorations refers to a deity of some type or kind, which many people, when asked, would say they do not believe in. The hypocrites! All the carols have religious significance, be they Christian or pagan in origin. (oh yes, the Pagans where worshipping something) I could go on, but you get the idea.

Best wishes,
Padster

Yes I see your idea of Christmas which isn’t everyone else’s.

I celebrate Christmas for myself. I celebrate a beautiful tree with decorations that represent members of my family. I celebrate Santa for the jolly good fellow that he is. I celebrate a time of the year that families if they want to can put aside differences and come together. I light candles for family members who are gone. I eat turtles for my mom who is gone. I buy presents for my kids that I know or hope will light of their faces with happiness. Being Christian or atheist has little to do with it.

FYI calling members hypocrites is insulting and name-calling. You can voice your opinions and beliefs without doing this.

I’m an atheist and yet I enjoy the holiday season. I like spending time with relatives, giving gifts, the lights, the food, everything about it. I put up a string of lights on my computer, I dig the season.

Does that mean I believe in any gods? No. Am I celebrating the birth of Christ, a roman sun god, or pagan trees? No. There are a ■■■■ load of holidays and traditions based on religious belief, observing them doesn’t mean you’re a believer. Do you take a day off work for Christmas? Do you swear on the Bible in court? Do you wear a wedding ring?

Dude needs to relax.

something to do…holidays got to lovem
