I have re-occuring tics (head jerking/twitching) that I find particularly annoying. Never been treated for it and I have had it since I was very little. It doesn’t really interfere my daily life so I just let it be.
But I’ve learned that antipsychotics can be used for tics. And it can also be used for intellectual disability, autism, dementia, mood disorders, and PTSD.
So if you ever felt ashamed because you are taking an AP, please think otherwise because APs can help a variety of people affected with a variety of conditions. Medicine is there to help us, not to shame us. This is what I’m trying to focus on.
I had a friend who long before I got SZ used to be on chlorpromazine for blinking uncontrollably since he was a kid. I didn’t see him complain or tell anyone about it.
Sometimes the tics don’t really bother people- my neck twitching happens about three times a day, but I haven’t told my mom about it until recently. I’m surprised on how she failed to notice it. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t really bother me anymore as much as it used to.
I didn’t catch that part of the show but I assume that it was for symptoms of concussion. They mentioned aripiprazole as well. It was a BBC radio interview. The singer Lady Gaga has said on an interview with Oprah that she is on antipyschotic, antidepressant and modafinil. I can link that cause its still on YouTube. Oprah Lady Gaga 2020
