Antipsychotic cns depression and narcotics

I was reading that risperidone has serious drug interactions with narcotic pain relievers due to cns depression. This is scary. It was recommended initiating a pain reliever at 30% regular dose! What happens if you get hurt or have surgery?

Has anyone taken a narcotic pain reliever with antipsychotics or risperidone? Did they cut the dose?

I take risperidone 4mg and have used opium while on it, no problem happened,
As probably you know the main effective matter inside opium is morphine,

Okay. Thanks for your reply

Nobody has been in the situation of needing serious pain relief? I have sent a message to my doctor and will talk to my psychiatrist about this.

CNS depression is rare. I’ve taken Clonazepam and Phenibut to no ill avail.

I take a neuropathic medicine called gabapentin. This is not an opium. However, I have to watch out just in case it makes me more depressed.

I manage 3-4 medicines every day to keep my muscular dystrophy AND depression stable. I cannot stop the progression of MD, but I try to relax my muscles anyway, while keeping the pain level low.

If you take risperidone, you have to ask your neurologist/GP on how the pain medicine is going to affect your AP. When my pain level was extremely high, I had to take a high dose of opium. Realizing the risks of this, my geneticist told me to not take this, but take gabapentin instead. Communication with your GP is very important on this matter. CNS depression is scary! :frowning:
