I think I beat my head against a wall as a child trying to help my mentally ill mother. It takes a lot of growing up, not only to help the mentally ill, but to realize that a child can’t fix it.

I have a friend with the same situation. I think he had to live in a foster home or a boarding school for about 3 years.

My son had to live with my sister in another state for about three years when I was really sick. A mentally ill friend of mine had a daughter who lived with her aunt in another state for about three years when her mother was really sick.

Thank you, @PinCushion. It was very hard on me, but, it was best for my son.
