Amino Acid - L-Lysine - New Treatment for Schizophrenia - Has it Helped You?

Well have been on lysine, glycine and pregnenolone for a month now. Definitely has helped the good times better and has eased some of the bad. Will keep on this for at least six months and will report back.

This truly is a miracle worker when is comes to avoiding cold sores and reducing the severity and duration of them.

I started trying this but I think nowhere near the recommended dosage and I do notice a difference in how I feel but I haven’t been able to sleep well on it even with Lunesta. Anybody else have this experience and does it get better? Today is only my forth dose and I halved what I had been taking to see if I can sleep better. I ordered some of the other suupplement (don’t remember how to spell it) too but it hasn’t come in yet. Hoping for good results though.

I take lysine not no 6mg though. Gotta look at all aminos and their chemical structure it’s all goes along with arginine, proline, aspartic acid. Not one supplement will ease your sz. But a well balanced pH diet plus branched chain aminos has eased my suffering. Glutamine ornithine, as a whole. Too much acid like coffee is very acidic my pdoc said soak the coffee beans in water and let set over night before brewing. Reduces the acidity. East African beans were recommended Kenyan etc

Any updates on l lysine? Seems it is not working for people.

@Jimbob any update on this? Please let us know what has happened since your last post.

the glycine definitely helped for 4 weeks then it seemed to stop working. I took the other supplements for months then decided to quit. I did not notice any difference when I stopped them so for me they didn’t have much benefit.

Hi, i am in my first week if l-lysine-
But i need to warn people not to take 6grams of it on an empty/ half empty stomach.
I was lying in bed in insane cramps and felt completely poisoned (i never really felt like this - have high pain threshold and strong stomach).
Took two hours - cramps, nausea, dizzy, pain from daylight. Then it passed.

It can be done right - i now take 3 grams of l-lysine after breakfast. And 3 after dinner. No more problems.

Will update when i know how it works!

Thanks for posting - this is very helpful. I hope you and others can report as you try this out.

I did a full month of 6 g/day of l-lysine.
I just went through a checklist of symptoms with my partner to see if there were any major changes, but sadly no.
Will move on to a different supplement.

I’ve been taking l lysine for cold sores for about 6 months and I’ve noticed a bit of pep to them likely because they boost the immune system is what i assess. Im less moody. But i can’t say if they address sz type symptoms… I recently stopped the sarcosine which originally was doing wonders and served its purpose but is currently overkill to me. I still take theanine for about a year now

I tried L-lysine but due to my sensitivity to glutamate/glutamine increases (I get ā€œautisticā€ rage fits; I can’t eat gelantin because it contains glutamate) I stopped. I am not sure but it’s possible that I noticed some improvement in some area. Not long ago I found out that I can ameliorate the side-effects I get from eating foods high in glutamate by taking creatine (not medical advice blablabla) since creatine competes with glutamate uptake. I will soon try to see if I can make it work taking lysine while avoiding my glutamate/glutamine sensitivity.

I’ve been taking about 21 grams of lysine, 15 grams of Vitamin C and 3 grams of Proline a day, divided in three doses, for two weeks, and my head pressure gradually went down to the point of just being annoying rather than feeling like I was on the verge of death. Voices also went down to the point of barely being audible. Showers are pretty much silent now.

I feel like I’m getting my life back.

One mechanism of action that lysine has is to break up arterial plaques, and Vitamin C strengthens arterial walls, while Proline aids collagen synthesis for repair. My unprofessional opinion is that there was a partial clot causing the pressure and symptoms, and that this supplement combination is gradually breaking it up.

Mid 2016 during work I had a thunderclap headache, followed by severe head pressure that wouldn’t go away, leading me to go to the hospital at least three times for them to do something about it, but since I wasn’t throwing up, they didn’t take a CT scan.

This regimen has made the biggest difference so far, of all the things I’ve tried. I feel like 70% normal now. Almost good enough to work again.

Only other medication I’m taking is 3mg Paliperidone.

Are those numbers right - 21 grams of L-Lysine? 15 grams of vitamin C?

Seems like really high numbers. How does 21 grams of L-Lysine taste? How are you taking it - pill/capsule or powder in drink or something?

I take it in powder form, and use 1/5th of a teaspoon of baking soda to round off the acidity of the Vitamin C, and after that the drink tastes like club soda. Actually kind of addictive, but probably high sodium. Blood pressure’s normal though, so that seems ok.

Each serving of the drink has 2 teaspoons (~7 grams) of lysine, 1 teaspoon (~5 grams) of Vitamin C, and 1/2 teaspoon (~1 gram) of proline. This is also the treatment recommended by Linus Pauling (a Nobel prize winner) for curing heart disease (but with more lysine.)

I have l-lysine but its outta date, is it still ok to take them?
