Am I in the early stages of schizophrenia?

Dude I doubt you have sz. Does anyone in your family have a history of mental illness?
Definitely don’t do drugs because smoking pot and taking acid and shrooms is what did it to me.
If you stop doing drugs you’ll prolly be fine.
Go see a psychiatrist just to be sure.
I think you’re just overthinking it.

No nobody in my family has it. And yeah I have stop taking the drugs and I don’t do any of that stuff just did exctqcy every now and again  and yeah your right but I can’t stop it’s like the more I try to not think about it the more I do

Who the heck gave you the idea of schizophrenia?
That had never occurred to me when I was your age.
It’s rare man. I’ve got severe bipolar disorder and it’s 100% from drugs. You don’t want this stuff. Try to get really healthy and remove stress from your life if you think you’re getting psychotic. Exercise, be kind to yourself. Cut toxic people and stressful circumstances out of your life. Go to AA. Find an new group of friends who play chess rather then druggies. do whatever you have to do to avoid getting this. It’s that bad. And yea see a doctor ASAP he might tell you the same things I just told you. It takes an incredible amount of stress to become psychotic. And drugs along with stress like triple the chances.

My friend told my about his mate that went all crazy and I just googled and then ever since I googled I’ve been obsessed with it  and really I’m sorry to hear that. And I know it’s sounds scary from the 1000 of story’s I’ve read up about it. And I’ve stopped hanging about with them mates and I’ve started going to the gym more and stuff like that even thought about boxing to try and get the stress out by punching ahaha ! And thanks for your advice man !

My first symptoms weren’t Obsessive like the ones your describing. I stopped being able to think clearly. I started to get into my head a lot. Then eventually I started to misinterpret people’s body language as being threatening. Then I thought I could hear my girlfriends thoughts. Then I went nuts.
But if I had stopped doing drugs and left the state of California (where I was living). I wouldn’t have gotten psychotic. It’s like the movie Dead Pool. You turn into a creature. It’s one of the worst things that can happen to a person. Don’t take ecstacy anymore.
I’ve had this ■■■■ for 15 years and I think about killing myself everyday. I used to be a cool kid, lots of friends, lots of girls. By I couldn’t stop doing drugs and I blew a fuse in my head. I don’t mean to scare you I just wish someone had told me like this when I was your age. You’ll be grateful for this convo one day when you’re getting married and happily adjusting to life not living in a delusional nightmare

Boxing is good! Just don’t get punched in the face too many times, it hurts!
We all knew “that guy” that went nuts when we were kids doing drugs. You really have to have an underlying predisposition to get sick. I wouldn’t read that stuff or listen to your friends anymore. Find a healthy crowd of kids that are thinking about their futures. They may not be the cool ones but you’ll be glad you did one day. I hope this helps. Good luck

21 is an at risk age. Another factor you want to know about is whether or not you have a family history of psychotic mental illness. People tend to get this disease between 18-25 then another group are at risk in their late 20s-30s. I started out like you, the symptoms were so mild I could totally ignore them, then one day about two years after it all started I just descended into madness, it came from using certain substances and antidepressants for me. So stay away from drugs to prevent yourself from ending up with this uncurable condition. Some people who are at risk for sz are your age and doctors have observed them, in the absence of an exacerbating event they experience mild prodromal symptoms then they plateau and go on with the rest of their lives normally. I could have been one of these if I hadn’t tried certain drugs at a certain time. Stay away from weed (the absolute worst), amphetamines and certain herbal antidepressants like St. John’s Wort. Try to not be stressed and make sure you get enough sleep. This may just be a hurdle at this point, if you manage to step over it you could live the rest of your life normally, if you mess up you may end up schizophrenic and have to take medication every day and have significant disabilities in life.

Ok thank you for your information it’s a great help and I know weed is the worst I can’t stand that stuff  and I don’t take any drugs or medication ! And thank you means a lot

Look for psychiatrists around you, and if you have insurance then check to see if they accept it…give them a call to set up an appointment which could take awhile depending on who you see.

Hey no problem man, just trying to help someone out. I wish I knew now what I didn’t know then. A predisposition means, you have the genetic risk in your DNA. If you have that tendency then you are more likely to inherit an illness. If you don’t, you are much less likely. That would mean if somebody in your immediate family had sz then you would be much more vulnerable to getting it too. No one in my family had it but I used drugs and gave it to myself. There were some other forces at work too like stressful situations that I got myself in that I had no business being in. to be safe, go see a psychiatrist and tell him what you’re going through and he will be able to help you more than anybody on this forum.
Hope this helps!

My hallucinations are unmistakable. I hear them with my ears and they sound exactly like real sounds. The only way I know they’re hallucinations is that they’re the voices of people who aren’t around. When my hallucinations started, they were just music playing in the background, and I definitely thought it was real. I thought my neighbor was playing music at all hours of the night.

About 25% of the general population occasionally hallucinates things like a phone ringing or someone calling their name. It is a very normal thing and does not negatively impact their lives. If your hallucinations are like that, definitely tell your doctor and keep at eye on it, but don’t fret. It is super common.

Of course, we are not doctors and can’t diagnose, but nothing you’ve written seems like what I have personally experienced with sccizophrenia.
