I said I quit today. The problem is now I want a drink really bad.
I’ve heard that the definitive symptoms of alcoholism are blackouts and personality changes. That doesn’t mean alcohol can’t hurt you even if you’re not an alcoholic. It the cravings are really bad maybe you have an understanding friend or relative, and you can always sound off here.
if you ever feel like you need a drink to feel okay, you’re an alcoholic,
AA has 20 questions to determine if you may be an alcoholic. You have to answer three or more “yes”. I started going to AA in 2016 wondering if I was an alcoholic. To be a member of AA you simply have to have a desire to stop drinking. You can Google “AA 20 questions Am I an alcoholic”. I answered yes to something like 6 or 8 questions. “Open” AA meetings are for anyone who wants to attend. “Closed” meetings are only for those with a desire to stop drinking.
What @Ninjastar said.
Wish i could be in control of my cigarette smoking like alcohol. I hit the alcohol the last month really bad but i just stopped. I haven’t drink for one week now and I don’t miss it one little bit. …but these cigarettes.
I feel like the fact that you’re questioning whether or not you’re an alcoholic suggests that you’re probably an alcoholic, or at least, relying to heavily on it.
If the amount of alcohol you drink hurts your liver, it doesn’t matter if you’re an alcoholic or not.
Alcoholic is kind of a toxic word. I used to be a problem drinker until I quit a few years ago.
IMO if your wondering if there is an issue, there probably is.
AA isn’t the only recovery method. There are others if your looking into it. Most are faith based, which is BS. But there is a good book out there about addiction recovery by Jack Trimpey called Rational Recovery. That is what I use and it works for me.
