I had an anxiety attack Wednesday night which triggered an urge to drink. I saw my pdoc today mainly to see if anything can be done to change feeling bad triggering drinking. He wasn’t helpful. He just checked the dossage of my Klonopin. I’ve been sober 2 years and it seems like the same things trigger the drinking response. Any ideas?
NAC helps relieve craving for alcohol and other drugs. It works for my craving for weed, but has been seen to help alcoholics too.
What is NAC? 151515
NAc is a supplement that is an amino acid. It is found in a number of foods.
You can buy it in capsule form. It is great!

I suppose I “crave” smokes and soda. But!, I think honestly it’s the last physical thread to my childhood. Almost lost it all. But!, Music still thrives!. So my doctor can keep asking for the numbers of what I continue to consume, not going to change a thing… … …
Slow breathing in out
AA is great for support. They told me: Before you pick up that drink/hit, think it through. Before you pick up that drink think what it is going to do to you and what’s going to happen afterwards. Try to remember the negatives of drinking, try to remember the misery. It just might deter you from drinking.
One best way to overcome cravings is to talk about them with someone else who cares or who has had the same struggles such as people in the rooms of AA. Medications can be helpful as well but only if used with other support. Getting around healthy people and finding other ways to fill the void left by alcohol, eating healthy, exercise, they all help. You don’t have to do it alone.
In addition to @77nick77’s fine suggestions, avoiding sugar and taking high doses of vitamins B1, B3 and B6 can be very helpful. Those who crave alcohol usually have hereditary metabolic imbalances and often are also addicted to sugar, caffeine and tobacco. They are often depressed. It is important to address these issues as well. The Vitamin Cure for Alcoholism by Abram Hoffer M.D. Ph.D. is a great resource.
My dad has recently quit drinking. Would having some other beverage on hand at your house help if you need a drink you could supplement it with something else. Could be soda water, tonic water, soda, Kombucha, or juice… probably should be something fizzy. It can help you to relax and take your mind off the thought that is fixating on the wish to drink.
Try to do things to relax and keep your mind at ease. The urge to drink is triggered by external stimuli.
Best wishes…
