Aging with Schizophrenia - Opinion Column

60 feels really low, I plan on living the standard 77 or whatever it is, or ideally into my eighties.

I hope you all have quit smoking if you plan to live longer.

LS! My age is 61! I quit smoking, alcohol and streetdrugs before I was thirty. At least twenty people I knew died young. I researched mortality and schizophrenia. I do all sort of things to live longer: exercise, diet at least ten fruit and veg a day, dietary supplements about thirty daily, senolytic treatment twice so far, intermittent fasting. At my age I get lots of care, which helps a lot.

I’m just hopin’ and going by my parents ages. I’ve had a slightly hard life. I’m entering the szs end of lifespan time but I feel pretty good. Quit smoking, take a few vitamins, walk a little, see a doctor. Taking retirement easy. A lot to stay alive for.

A strict vegan diet to prevent heart disease. Research papers references are given throughout the talk.

I watched that video or another one of his many years ago. Interesting stuff.

I tried sticking to that diet and lasted about 6 months. Got my cholesterol level down to 4, which is the heart attack proof zone. A bit strict of a diet though that requires a lot of motivation and constant vigilance.

I didn’t know that. My cholesterol is around that too but I don’t have any diet to thank for it. Although I don’t eat a lot of meat I guess.

I have high cholesterol levels, high triglycerides, high blood glucose levels, I have high blood pressure.
I’m overweight and have a severe mental illness.
I don’t have much time left.

I know I read vegetarians live longer.

Wave I know people that have everything wrong with them health wise and their still living.

I’ve had a belief, for a very long time, that I’ll live until age 54. Not age 53. Not age 55. Just age 54. I’m convinced. IDK if it’s a delusion or not. But I’ve believed it for years… Long before being diagnosed as SzA.

I have:
diabetes, type 1
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobility type
schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type
asthma

I’m just… convinced… that 54 will be my end.

I had that for the age of 27, I believed that I’d join the 27 club. When I turned 28 I just kind of changed, wanted to get sober, went back to school. The delusion faded, luckily.
