ADHD assessment coming up, what should I expect?

My mum won’t be able to sit with me because she struggles a lot with English and my partner knows me well enough to explain some of my symptoms… so he’s gonna sit with me. I am nervous and don’t know what to expect.

Are you hoping for a positive ADHD diagnosis?

I don’t know if I have ADHD , but my assessment report suggested I might have it. so I’m a little positive I do. If I do I guess there’s treatments I can consider.

How long did you have to wait for till you could finally be assessed? I hear the waiting list is like 4+ years now. I’ve been advised to get an assessment also.

I have been waiting since May so will be 5 months. But I went via RTC. So it’s quicker.

Sorry what’s RTC? is that through NHS?

If you’re in England you can go through right to choose. It means the NHS will pay for you to get an assessment through a private healthcare provider… You just do your research on private clinics who accept rtc , call up the provider of choice and ask how long the wait is. Follow the instructions on their website to get referred by your GP.

If you want a list of providers I can let you know the clinics I’m aware of . Let me know.

That would be lovely if you could let me know of the providers, thank you. I recently had an autism assessment that concluded that I wasn’t autistic but I may have adhd, so I just want to get that out of the way.

Check this link for providers. I went via a different one that’s not on this list called Problem Shared

Thank you. I also got assessed for autism at clinical partners but didn’t use them for ADHD cos they don’t offer meds.

Thanks so much!
