Am I right to blame abilify for this? One thing I know is that since taking abilify I’m been waking up several times a night, always suddenly, as if springing up in the middle of the dream. I will hear this and that whispered directly into my ear. Sometimes the voice appears to be located within speaking distance. How can an experience brought about by AP so closely resemble a psychotic experience? Is this normal?
Abilify can worsen psychosis or psychotic symptoms in certain people, it’s weird but it happens. The likely cause has to do with Abilify not acting as a dopamine antagonist but rather a dopamine partial agonist.
But does that make a case for switching med or is just one of those side effects you’re expected to put up with?
What dose are you on & how long have you been taking it?
Yes, for some people it is enough for a med change, but it can get better with time or upping the dosage! I had the same with Abilify a couple years ago, it eventually mellowed out I think.
Right now 10 mg, soon to be upped. I’ve been on it several weeks. I guess it’s more of a temporary side effect.
It should get better once the dosage is upped & some more time goes by, if not you should talk to your pdoc about it. I hope that it gets better for you!
I used to wake up in the night due to abilify.
Now i take it in the morning
Abilify was very activating for me.
Whenever i closed my eyes i got white flashing lightning zig zags.
Had to knock myself out with sleeping pills and eventually i got taken off it.
Thanks god
