im interested in trying abilify. what are the advantages? does it cause weight gain? my current med is fine, but i would like a little more energy to workout and get chores done. i would also like to get my appetite back.
will ask my pdoc about it in december.
i’ve never asked to change meds before, i just accept what my doc prescribes and recommends. i’ve been on current med for 4 years, had some side effects for the first year but they’ve subsided other than i don’t get hungry more than once a day.
Abilify may or may not give you more energy. It depends on the individual’s chemistry. Its worth a try. For me it gave me more energy but caused worse issues, addictions (shopping, gambling) and hypersexuality.
Zyprexa is the med that increases hunger the most. Why do you want to lose weight? Ppl want to lose weight and not gain weight. I wish that I could lose at least 100lb.
i don’t want to lose weight, well last year i wanted to lose 15 pounds but accidentally lost 30. now i want to gain 15 pounds and stay at that weight. im always going up and down, and have a hard time maintaining my weight consistently. i fluctuate from 135 pounds to 170 pounds. up and down. lose too much, start eating more, gain too much, start eating less and so on.
I’ve been on abilify for the last 18 months. Fantastic med for me.
Having said that, I’m not sure you would want to change medication. Your symptoms seem to be well controlled with what your on now, and that’s the pdoc main concern i think. IDK… Doesn’t hurt to ask.
I was on abilify for over a year. Stopped because I couldn’t sit or stay still, always moving my legs. It was simply inbearable. On a good side it had stopped my delusions. You can give it a try and see how it works for you. Everyone’s experience is different.
Abilify worked really well when I was a teenager didn’t need another med just abilify however I’m older now and take it with haldol lamictal wellbutrin and klonopin it’s still a good med tho
