Abilify dose - anybody on more than 15mg?

I’m on 15mg of Abilify, been better on it, but recently starting to get unwell. The pdoc wants to increase it to 30mg. Long time ago under a different pdoc, I was on 60mg and it wasn’t any better than how I am now on 15mg. I’m worried about akathisia etc.
Anybody here on more than 15?

I’m surprised that doctors raise it to 30mg in us. In England the max we do is 20mg and their reasoning is that above 20 the functional effects remain the same the only thing that differs is stronger side effects

I used to be on 30mg and it worked really well for me for many years. Then I made the mistake of going off it and my world exploded and it never worked for me again.

Yes, I was on 90mg. Now I take 30

I was on 30mg but it didn’t work out for me. Such a shame as the side effects seem lighter than some other aps- especially weight gain

Thanks @anon90843118, that’s been my experience. Do you know of any literature supporting this, or is it just from clinical experience?

Yes, it is what my cpn told me. I’ll check and have found this online:
‘In summary, the data available so far indicate that the optimum dose for aripiprazole is 10 mg/day and that doses above 20 mg/day provide no additional benefit.’

Yes. I’m on more than 15 mg and I’m ok.

Awesome and thanks, that’s just what I was after. It’s from 2009 - I’ll have a look if there is anything more recent. Good argument for not upping the dose past 15mg at least.

Yea sorry I just took the first relevant journal I saw off Google but there may be more recent ones.

I guess if it’s not working on 15mg after several weeks, then upping it to 20mg is OK but according to this article and my cpn, further than that is not worth it

I’m in Australia. It seems Abilify is not popular here. Psych’s I’ve spoke to think it’s not a good AP. It seems to get use in Bipolar rather than Sz.

Do you know why it’s not popular in Australia?
Oh cos they think it doesn’t work as effectively for the hallucinations?

Yea it’s also used as an adjunct for depression

I couldn’t get to 30mg.
The highest I’ve ever gotten with Abilify was 25mg.

It just made me too jittery!

I was on 20mg initally. Everybody’s different in how they react to meds. 20mg was too much for me and I felt like a zombie.

I’m doing ok on 15mg now.

I tried 30 mg. Yup jittery!!! :grimacing: odd sensations/feelings

All I know is 25 was the most I could tolerate. It may have not been enough for me. But it was the most effective dose I could tolerate

I have an internet friend who takes 35 mg. It is the only drug that works for her.

I was on 20mg but I developed a horrendous gambling problem :confused: it did settle my symptoms down tho aside from the gambling side effect.
