I’m on Abilify 15mg a day. I calorie count using an app to control my weight.
When I was vaping, this was easy. I could stay within my allowed calorie intake per day.
Once I gave up vaping, I’ve been losing the battle. I still calorie count, but I’ve been eating 300-400 calories more than I should be. So I’ve been putting on weight. Lots of weight.
Then I remembered that previously, many years ago, I figured out by accident that a B-complex cuts down on hunger pangs on Abilify.
So I ordered this (it doesn’t have folic acid or b12 which give me anxiety) and it has relatively low amounts of b vitamins.
I’m very interested in how this goes for you. I have the same issue with Abilify. I’m just hungry all the time, and it’s just kind of sitting there in my mind all the time. If I hadn’t had my bypass, I don’t doubt that I’d still be gaining weight.
I take the B-complex when I wake up. I don’t think about food until I’m actually hungry now.
But the effect wears off very late at night, so a lot of willpower is required late at night to stop myself stuffing my face.
So I might look into taking it a bit later.
However, and maybe more importantly, it has had a very positive effect on my mood and negative symptoms. Especially avolition. I’m actually able to get stuff done.
Thank you for the update. I’m having the same issue with Abilify. I’m going to try the B-complex, too. I just have to wait a couple of weeks because I just started l-theanine and don’t want two new ones going at a time.
Hello. Icount calories with a scale and it’s good for me. i limit my calories intake of 2500 calories daily. i loss 21 kilograms recently and i do also one hour of bike home daily.
I’am lucky because the drugs don’t want mze to eat more.
The appetite suppression effects of the B-complex seem to last for about 9 hours. It’s helpful for me. No more thinking about food all day. But it does wear off at night.
I’ve added decaffeinated espresso every so often throughout the day to the mix and that has helped too.
The B-complex is not a panacea for appetite on Abilify but it helps for sure.
It has bumped up my mood though, so that’s a good enough reason to continue taking it anyway.
For years I massively put on weight no matter what I did. I tried everything to lose.
Then I came off my depakote. The weight just started falling off with minimal effort on my part. I’ve lost 120 lbs already.
Sometimes these meds impact us metabolically and very little can be done. If your health is negatively impacted by your weight like mine was, it may be good to look at another medication. Metabolic syndrome is no joke. You don’t want to exchange your mental health for your physical health.
Have you considered trying a different med? Or is abilify the only one that’s worked for you? Sorry if that is the case.
