I do agree with you that it’s no fun being on antipsychotics but most of us have no other choice.

I have been taking 15 mg of Aripiprazole the generic form of Abilify for about a year. I to suffer from depression. The cognitive symptoms of sz caused my depression because it makes it very difficult to function properly. This caused my negative symptoms leading to my social anxiety. I used to take 2 mg of Benztropine ( Cogentin ) and 5 mg of Haloperidol ( Haldol ) to control my positive symptoms but, I no longer have them. It took about a year for the Abilify to relieve my depression. I am no longer suffering from Anhedonia and I feel like things are finally looking up for me. I am finally able to do the things that I enjoy and organize my life ( because I was so disorganized before!! ) without just sitting around the house watching TV all day like I used to. Give the medication time because it is finally working for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Update: I quit it with my doctor’s approval a few days ago, I’m waiting til abilify leaves my system to have my own opinion but so far there are moments when I can enjoy things I used to enjoy even if it doesn’t last long

We all have our good and bad days. I guess I was just trying to be optimistic because it’s rare that people with sz find anything that actually works for them and it seems like I finally found something that is working for me. But, just because it appears to be working for me however; doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you. For instance, I am allergic to Risperdal. The moment I took it I felt like I was going to pass out. Later, I started to get a fever and pain in my hands and feet. I thought I was going to die! luckily, I took a Tylenol that brought the fever back down and I gradually started returning to normal without having to go to the ER. I hope you and your Doctor will come up with a treatment plan that works. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve meds.

I’m not on anything, thank god, I got away from those people who were happy to destroy my life. I was previously forced abilify and it took away my previous functioning for many months and I felt like I was being tortured from the inside out.

Kinda surprised me with the half-life for Ablify. I stopped feeling the anhedonia after 12 hours of taking the medicine, but I could be an exception. It also was only one dose. Statistically, when you include the half life, the pills leave your system after 20 days(5 half lives)

I wish I could take Abilify. It gave me addictions and hypersexuality but improved my negative symptoms significantly.

You can try neurofeedback for Anhedonia. It worked for me, but after 8 sessions. I felt slightly worse on my 9th, then my Anxiety got reduced greatly after the 10th. The lack of anxiety makes me feel better(I thought I was only suffering from anhedonia and boredom). Apparently, when you get rid of cortisol(stress hormone) you feel better from Depression AND anxiety. It feels great. It’s like I have less of Anxiety I didn’t know I had

Neurofeedback may work for you. I was born in the Summertime and might have Deficit Schizophrenia(It’s characterized by more severe negative symptoms if you born during the Summertime and it composes 25% of all SZ patients). I can attest to it working, I had less fatigue after 1 session, and could stay on the computer half of the day, then after the 2nd one, it was the full day. After 6 more sessions, my sense of boredom went away), with minor worsening after the 7th one. The 8th, alot of anxiety that I thought I never had went away(probably from lessening of cortisol) and I feel more calm. I am also starting(I just got home) to enjoy random things more(this forum for example).

I was born in winter. Is Neurofeedback free covered by insurance?

It’s not, at least at the practice I go to. They let you do monthly payments over a course of 6 months-a year and a half. It averages $250 bucks a month, if you do it over a fixed amount of time, but at the cost of around 8% interest(this really isn’t bad if you’re saving time) you can do it for maybe a few more months. It could be a good investment if it makes you want to go back to work/school. Basically pay itself.

Theres also a different option that I heard is covered by insurance-TMS(Transcranial magnet therapy). It’s way less intense than ECT and you don’t have any side effects

Some of my apathy has gone after the Clopixol depo injection was changed from 400 mg every other week to once every 3. week and both my atypical drugs was upped. I think that the atypicals are a lot better for not causing so many negative symptoms than the oldschool meds. Try some of the other atypicals. Maybe you will find the perfect fit after some trial and errors.
