So, this is a pretty unimportant topic. And one primarily for older folks but Imma post it anyway.

Today, in the mail, my dad got this TV guide trivia thing. One of the pictures on the front was Laverne and Shirley.

It made me remember the intro to the show I saw when I was a kid.

And it made me think…wtf were they talking about?

They say something like “Shlameel shlamizal…blah blah blah incorporated” It seems so odd thinking back. What could this mean? Seems almost like made up words.

The answer is probably out there on the internet , but I thought it migh be more fun to contemplate the possibilities.

I believe I may have heard “shlameal” as an insult before, like as in “what a shlameal.” , although I cannot recall where.

Anyone care to venture a guess on wtf this intro is about?

Yes, I was thinking shlameal might be a Jewish insult as well. I think you’re right. I still i have no idea what the point of the little countdown and dance saying that could mean , though. Its seems so odd.

I’m dating myself here. When I thought of my mother watching that show when I was under 6 or so, I remembered them saying “shlameasel” instead of shlameal, and I never made the connection to Johnny 5 in “Short Circuit” using the term to mean “stupid” or “foolish” or something.

Yeah. That actor in “Independence Day” was about to meet an actor playing the President, and he had no neck tie, as I recall.

Well, I guess that pretty much solves the mystery…I still think its quite weird.

It does not explain why people were so weird in the seventies :laughing:.

Because it was a time of rapid inflation, a little like the last 4 years. As I vaguely recall, Laverne and Shirley were two single ladies attempting to survive by working menial jobs and pooling their resources.

Oh God. Does that mean people are going to get as weird as the 1970’s? I guess since I think Im mostly of German heritage, Imma have to do some dance incorporating the word “schweinhund” into it, since its the only German insult I know.

Well, they worked in a brewery. I don’t know if the words are connected to that but they said the schemeil thing and then the name of the brewery was Shotz Incorporated.

I don’t know. The IMF declared a “Great Reset” in 2020, and I guess we are still resetting. I don’t know what year we are resetting to, though.

The lyrics to the intro song are Hasenpfeffer incorporated. Hasen pfeffer (German) literally translates to rabbit pepper which doesnt make alot of sense.
