A thought that came to my mind: Leather jackets

I went for my morning bicycle ride to see my father at the elderly care facility. Today he was quite well and spoke with me, although he thought I was his brother as he often does due to his dementia. During my ride some thoughts came to my mind. One was leather jackets. I have always liked to wear leather jackets. Back in 1986 I purchased a new leather jacket in my little town, but when I visited my friends in Helsinki this jacket was stolen by somebody in one bar, I decided to take somebody’s jacket too, it was too small. Then back in 1987 I visited London with one of my ex-girlfriends and I bought a brown leather jacket at one flea market. This was a good jacket and lasted until 1997 when I had to buy a new leather jacket in Atlanta. It was 150 dollars at that time. One person asked why did I buy this leather jacket because it is warm in Atlanta, but somehow I had my instinct that I needed it in the future as I did. This leather jacket lasted also 10 years. After that I have purchased leather jackets in my little town, at the flea markets. I have now four leather jackets (two black and two brown) and th most recent purchase was just 20 euros (26 dollars). So I have spent 50 euros for all four jackets, but if somebody had purchased these in retail stores and the price might have been 500 euros. So it is good to buy clothes at flea markets which is why I have not purchased any in any retail stores at all. So this was one thought that came to my mind.

When I lived with my sister (1995-1998) we had a yellow jacket infestation. They built a nest in our chimney and so for weeks we had yellow jackets flying and crawling around in our living room. Our Labrador used to eat them.

I still have my first leather jacket that I got for graduation, it was $20 (on sale) at “Wilson’s leather” That was 32 years ago.
Over the years I collected a bunch, and even wore them on my motorcycle, but they don’t offer the protection of the jackets with body armor in them, so they sit in my closet today doing nothing. Think the most expensive one was bought at Sam’s club for $100. It’s a beautiful jacket, but I just don’t wear it.

That is a nice wallet you got at the flea market @mjseu…There is a Wilsons leather shop in our town and we like it when they run those 70% off sales. Last time in there we got 12 items for $95 all leather stuff.

I Loooooove flea markets, and better yet, garage sales (yard sales, tag sales), thrift shops, 2nd hand stores…anything where you can find a one of a kind item and an inexpensive price. On my way across town to visit my mom, we kept stopping at every garage sale we came across, and ended up at my mom’s with the car packed full of goodies, we couldn’t even close the trunk.
Something about going into a regular store and looking at a thousand or so of the same machine made carbon copy items with no soul that really turn me off.
