I was watching a documentary on tv that said the owners of the factories during the industrial revolution deliberately played the different ethnic groups they’d hired against each other. It made these disparate groups easier to control. I thought the U.S. had gotten rid of these kinds of practices, but I think they are still alive and well in America. Some factory owner will run his assembly line too fast and will make a lot of the movements the workers have to make very awkward and difficult to make. Then his employees will go on strike because they’re not even making minimum wage, and they’re being worked to death. The factory owner will then go to a temporary job agency and hire workers from there. Then the owner will run his assembly line with the same screwball difficulties in it, and the temp. workers start to think that they would be better off delivering pizza for a living. Then the factory owner will start to belly ache about how he can’t get decent employees, and he will start to hire illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants can’t complain about the conditions they have to work under. The factory owner will go on running his assembly line too fast, and the white workers will blame the Mexicans for working too cheap and bringing down wages. The factory owner will start to say that he can’t get good workers legally, so he had to break the law and hire illegal immigrants. This situation is not the immigrants’ fault. The factory owners are to blame. We could get rid of this kind of behavior practiced by the factory owners if we let the illegals gain full citizenship in the U.S. They won’t be nearly as easy to manipulate and exploit if they don’t have to hide in the shadows.
